I would go to Europe!
Does personal safety count as a worry.Heat aside, places like Baghdad and Damascus have enormous history, as does much else of the Middle East - but I would be a bit wary of going walkabouts in some of those places. Similarly, there is a lot of history around the caucuses, like in Georgia and Armenia - but again, not very stable right now.BTW, you did not really give the option of walking across Antarctica or Oceania []

Sounds a bit naive to me.Aside from, as he implies, he is starting by looking for clerk working for a shipping company or the channel tunnel to break company rules and allow his to stow away on a crossing (he could have maybe gone for trying to convince a yachtsman to take him across, but it seems that has not occurred to him), I also wonder how he plans to enter India, through Afghanistan (and thence through Pakistan), Burma, or China? None of these options are easy, any of which could either get him shot or in jail. What might have been possible on the hippy trail in the 1960s is no longer really a safe option.
Atlantis []If I were to really stretch a point in this thread, I would say Mars.Seriously, though... Kamchatka or Alaska. I love the wilderness & solitude, and the scenery in those places is awe-inspiring.
