Title: Poetry
Post by: Deanwinfield on 18/05/2005 22:06:45
I would like to see some poetry from people if anyone is a writer. I've quite recently become interested in it and think that they are beautiful, especially my girlfriends! She is very talented... Anyway I would love to see some Science related or anything, Thank You for sharing in advance.

I love poetry. Science is not my speciality though I'm sorry. Perhaps you should write one, I would love to read it.

About twenty years ago (21 in fact) I had a few short stories and poems published in an Arty magazine called 'The Fred '...one of the stories was serialized and ran over four issues....which is nice !!...unfortunately for me, they went bust !!...I think my poetry and stories killed their sales and alas since then, I've never tried to re-publish my stuff...it's shame. the story that was serialized was going to published in a large hard back book in it's own right !..we had all the illustrations done and everything......what a piss !!!....and that's what I have to say about that !

I love poetry, my favourite poet has to be W.B Yeats, especially Aedh wishes for the Cloths of Heaven. I have written a few pieces but I don't believe them to be very good. But I'll post one, as I'm new it's less embarrassing.

My Beacon

Have you ever wanted to own a piece of heaven?
Well for me I do, as I have you.
No longer with the need to see the beauty of the stars;
Because I can simply look into your eyes.
When I do, it's like travelling through time, getting lost.
But you always bring me back with your smile and heart
My beacon!
You are the lighthouse on my shore.
Ever guiding me back to you
Watching and making sure no harm comes back to me.

No sense dwells in this feeling so fragile
It is a madness tinged with a joy so real
I see your eyes and I am lost now within you
Securing my love together with yours

It's close to the edge and I sense the overwhelming
Struggling to keep my senses as fact
For inside you is a heart that has caught me
Holding me close , with you I'm intact

For you are the dew in the morning of my life
The light of the day and the darkness of night
This blanket of seasons has sold me to you
let the mist be the cloud of the first kiss

No sense dwells in this feeling so fragile
Our lives are a recipe that can't be ignored
Hold me, betroth me to the inside of you
Timeless does beckon as I say " I do "

I love poetry too. what do you think. I just made it .

My head is not what it used to be.

Than you Helena,

I just share peoples love for the written word here. And just imagined that I had a loved one to write it to.
I find that if I can just put myself in the emotion then the words flow.

Thank you

I love Mirages one too.

Ian that is amazing. I only really got into poetry while I was at college where on most days found myself sitting on a peaceful patch of grass and writing my thoughts down.

Thank you all for your kind words. I will indeed put it in the shared writing thread along with some others eventually.  Thank you again

My Heart has been captured and you hold the key, Your the keeper of my heart, My soul lives in thee!

A chain of love, surrounds you and I; So strong our emotions, we both sometimes cry....

Reaching out from so.. so.. far away, Grasping and longing to be closer each and every day!!

Entranced by the power of the sheer love and desire our hearts are joined tightly and bonded by fire!

Incredible hurdles we leap for one another, holding tightly to this love as is like no other!

Hearts in harmony and joined in bliss for there never will be a love more pure then this!

A treasured moment which has been stolen from time, a kiss of betrothal that lingers sublime!

A mutual joining of two spirits in love with a host of sweet angels singing of their love...

Alas forever their souls have combined living in the world their two hearts have divined!

Love’s Betrayal

By Loretta Gibson

Romantic love, the kind wherein partners become lost to each other, is a falling towards expression of lovers. Lovers choose a way, making a decision to find themselves together. A rare gift that goes beyond the boundaries of religion or materialism, romantic love inspires the psyche with profound motivations for life.

Lovers are no longer in solitude; their solitude rather is enriched by the mere presence of the other. Life becomes a journey shared, and the destination is but the fulfillment of love. Each moment is unveiled in glory, and mystery upon mystery of love is revealed. Lovers discover that the yearning they once possessed in silent is now answered through each other’s existence.

Romantic love is not an idealism professed, it is a transcendent tryst. Lovers shape, and become shaped in turn, by the act of devotion they share. Lovers see, and know, and feel the world to have somehow been changed. A sanctuary is created wherein their hearts may dwell.

As they change, lovers choose to change together, choose to re-make the world within the image of love they hold. As they change not together, then there is a falling away from love. Love is no longer the center of life’s expression for them. And love has been betrayed.

Lovers chose to risk the hardness of heart sometimes experienced in the world and ventured for the potential of loving vulnerability. The betrayal of love becomes a process of grief, the sanctuary of lovers is thrown down in dismay, and the gates shut. The dull ache of betrayal to one’s inner being is the realization of being an individual in solitude once more.

Disillusionment with the possibility of love arises. The reflections upon the once shared world seem bitterly unrealistic. Now all that remains is for the individual to understand, and accept, that life does not fall apart, it merely falls into fresh patterns. This acceptance of life, however, is dependent as well upon the acknowledgement that love is the only realistic answer to an unrealistic world. And what can be learned is that love sometimes exists in contradictions.

Bereft

Thoughts are empty, as an echo in a valley.
All that remains of love's devotion is a blunted, knotted memory rooted in thoughts of him.

An ending now, possessing no beginning.
I no longer hear his name in the halls of my being, nor call out to his from the hollow places of my heart.
I am harnessed in my speech, withholding what means to be fervently spoken.
I cannot utter his name, therefore my love is nameless.

There is no longer that lover's lightning moment of embrace.
The truth of my Self hidden from him, there was no chance for redemption. He was blind to me. And I saw only what blinded me.
In ruthless honesty I dwell. The house of my soul now opens to wind and cloud cast day.

In ruins I exist.
No longer the bright cleanliness of love, only the dust of what might have been.

Here is an older piece from me before my heart turned....and I was enjoying the sunrise in Jamaica!

Romance is like a Diamond

But romance has different facets not measured in carats, cut, color, or clarity.

One only needs time to discover each side of love in its uniqueness.

Romance is just not found in people, but in your atmosphere!
You may think How? Where is my ... atmosphere of Romance?

Is there fire, water, and air?

Fire to keep it burning within and all around.
Water to keep it going and flowing through.
Air to keep it alive, like oxygen is needed to breathe.

Atmosphere is wherever and whatever you make it.
It can be a bitter cold wind nipping your cheek don't mask it within like a robe
keeping out the wind.

An ocean mist kissing your cheek, as you reflect on long lost love somewhere
which has not yet found you while walking along a beach.

A fireplace with such intensity it as if you are dancing among the flames
and are carefree with abandonment of your heart!

I have learned to expand my knowledge in this area...without a man to
learn to listen to the wind as it had wooed me when I was in
Jamaica while watching the sunrise on the beach before me showing off
her pretty arms of rays!  Gently caressing my cheek softly with her warmth
and her gentleness.

Losing oneself into the edges of romance drifting in and out as a long
winter's sleep.  I wake up and find romance is just sitting there.

beyond that farthest shore

you are that dreaming flower blossoming unto the vast sky
inherent simplicity of being surrounds you
and clothes you in diaphanous robes of joy

you are that flowing grace of the ocean’s movement
wherein all existence of love permeates life
and my religion becomes a worship of that essence aflame you bear

you are that song of the far reaching road that leads me homewards
i have been long astray without your nourishing melody
and such child-like grace as you possess to lend refreshing beauty
to me

Every word of every tongue is
By Fakhruddin Iraqi
(? - 1289)

Every word of every tongue is
Love telling a story to her own ears.
Every thought in every mind,
She whispers a secret to her own Self.
Every vision in every eye,
She shows her beauty to her own sight.
Every smile on every face,
She reveals her own joy for herself to enjoy.

Love courses through everything,
No, Love is everything.
How can you say, there is no love,
when nothing but Love exists?
All that you see has appeared because of Love.
All shines from Love,
All pulses with Love,
All flows from Love--
No, once again, all IS Love!

Thought you might like this

What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.

Depression Lives

Dark endless pit of lonliness & despair
No one understands, no one seems to care

This sadness gets stronger everyday
I feel my mind slowly slipping away

My thoughts are jumbled, I can't think straight
Am I having a breakdown, is that my fate

The walls are coming, they're closing in
I don't understand, just what was my sin

I seem to have an endless supply of tears
I wish they could wash away all my fears

Depression lives, it keeps growing stronger
God help me - I can't go on like this much longer.

When I'm all alone, thats when I want to cry.
I hear you tell me "just give up and die".

I see all my failures, they've all been exposed
Im standing alone, no longer composed.

I want to run away and crawl in a hole.
I'm paralyzed by fear, I have no control.

I'm exhaused and I want to go to bed
But the dreams that are coming, I truly dread.

Thank you for your kind words.  I received an email today from someone who read my poems and was concerned that I may be suicidal.  I really don't want to worry anyone.  Please be reassured that I am not a threat to myself.  The only time I ever write poetry is when I am severely depressed.  Fortunately it doesn't happen often, but when it does, it hits me hard.  I find that writing is the best way for me to express myself and to work through it.

Not myself, I would not think harshly of the concerned person, although I have no idea who it was, but I am sure there intentions were good. I to have written in deep times of depression and sorrow. It is an extremely good way to find some perspective on myown feelings.. it allows me to step back and examine myself in almost a third person perspective!! Sometimes it is very healing...Welcome and we hope you stay!

OK, to avoid further speculation, I'll own up that I did send an email 'not myself' (or tried to – but I got a message back to say the email had bounced, so I thought it had not gotten through).  I am not saying that is the email she is referring to (I am assuming it is a she, although it may be an erroneous assumption), because I did did not accuse her of being suicidal as such, but did express concern that she she did seem depressed, and clearly did show some concern for he welfare. And it is very possible that she read into the email a concern that she might harm herself (I was open minded about the possibility, but concerned it might be there).

If that is the email she is referring to (and my sincere apologies if it is a he rather than a she), then I do thank her for clarifying her situation, and wish her well in her own way.

It is an extremely good way to find some perspective on myown feelings.. it allows me to step back and examine myself in almost a third person perspective!! Sometimes it is very healing...Welcome and we hope you stay!

Karen

I don't think harshly at all of the concerned person.  I thought it was a very touching gesture, and I probably would've done the same thing.  I just was concerned that if one person was worrying about it that there may be others that thought it as well.  I posted here because the writing is very personal and I have a nosey family.  If they saw that I wrote something that dark (it is dark for me) they would be greatly concerned.  But by posting it here, I am able to go back and look over it and, as you said Karen, examine myself in the third person.   I am not fan of poetry or poetry forums.  I realize this is a science forum, but I saw this thread and thought I would put it here.

George - I didn't receive your email, but I appreciate you trying.  I don't know why it would've bounced back.  Thank you for your concern.  You are also correct in assuming that I am a 'she'.

I am glad that someone was concerned enough to write if they truely felt that need as so many times , not this case there are those who do in deed need to have that hand of someone who has the courage to reach out to someone instead of remaining silent and assuming all is well. Its better to follow your heart in earnest rather then to alow the opportunity to help slip by and perhaps in many cases be too late... unfortunately there are others of us who write things like that that may be more inclined to do just that, I am so happy that someone acted on their instincts even though they were wrong... It takes alot of courage to reach out like that sometimes.. and for you to post and allow them to understand your perspective is also very courageous.. I am glad you allowed everyone that lovely information. I really hope you enjoy the forum... and feel comfortable enough to stay!!

Hymn

By A. R. Ammons
(1926 - 2001)

I know if I find you I will have to leave the earth
and go on out
over the sea marshes and the brant in bays
and over the hills of tall hickory
and over the crater lakes and canyons
and on up through the spheres of diminishing air
past the blackset noctilucent clouds
where one wants to stop and look
way past all the light diffusions and bombardments
up farther than the loss of sight
into the unseasonal undifferentiated empty stark

And I know if I find you I will have to stay with the earth
inspecting with thin tools and ground eyes
trusting the microvilli sporangia and simplest
          coelenterates
and praying for a nerve cell
with all the soul of my chemical reactions
and going right on down where the eye sees only traces

You are everywhere partial and entire
You are on the inside of everything and on the outside

I walk down the path down the hill where the sweetgum
has begun to ooze spring sap at the cut
and I see how the bark cracks and winds like no other bark
chasmal to my ant-soul running up and down
and if I find you I must go out deep into your
          far resolutions
and if I find you I must stay here with the separate leaves

What you do speaks so loudly that I cannot hear what you say.

I carved a wind-harp (from Uttering Her Name)

By Gabriel Rosenstock
(1949 - )

Dar Óma
out of aged cherry-wood
I carved a wind-harp
and placed it far
from the eyes
and ears of men
a hawk watches over it

no fingers touch
its delicate strings
the breeze it is
that plays the tune
breeze of morning
breeze of night
warm breeze from the south

throughout the day
it sings but You

wordlessly
effortlessly

never the same tune

Hadrian, Thats very nice. I do love Poetry.. makes me mellow and relax... that and music always soothes me, if it doesn't make me cry!!

Neil, that one is very unusual and does leave one with a cold feeling. After my mother passed away there were boxes of things stored around my bedroom and I remember having that same feeling one day, I grabbed this box and set set it on the bed thought I would sort it out as it had been over a year.. I reached in without really paying attention and pulled what I thought was a knit hat onto my lap, and when I looked down I saw that it was her Kemo cap she had made from her own hair that she had lost from the chemo.. She had taken and stitched her own hair into, that she saved from each bath as it fell out by the handfuls, When she wore it you really could not tell her hair was gone as it was her own color and just looked like a cap. with her hair haning out! I remember that cold feeling settle over me as I held that cap in my hands, and then the tears welled up as if she had died just then all over again... so crazy how emotions work!! I had myself a long cry and then returned the cap to the box, being careful to flod it and lay it safely tucked into the box until I was emotionally ready to do this again... It has been since 1993, and I still have not been able to sort that box out... Maybe just the pice of her that I cannot let go of... I don't know its a weird thing I tell you... I don't understand it!! Sorry thats not a poem, just feelings your 'Haiku' drug up!!

Parting
By Li Po(701 - 762)
English version by Sam Hamill

Green mountains rise to the north;
white water rolls past the eastern city.

Once it has been uprooted,
the tumbleweed travels forever.

Drifting clouds like a wanderer's mind;
sunset, like the heart of your old friend.

We turn, pause, look back and wave,
Even our ponies look back and whine.

Novena Of The Holy Spirit

By Edith Stein
(1891 - 1942)

English version by Washington Province of Discalced Carmelites

Who are you, sweet light, that fills me
And illumines the darkness of my heart?
You lead me like a mother's hand,
And should you let go of me,
I would not know how to take another step.
You are the space
That embraces my being and buries it in yourself.
Away from you it sinks into the abyss
Of nothingness, from which you raised it to the light.
You, nearer to me than I to myself
And more interior than my most interior
And still impalpable and intangible
And beyond any name:
Holy Spirit eternal love!

Are you not the sweet manna
That from the Son's heart
Overflows into my heart,
The food of angels and the blessed?
He who raised himself from death to life,
He has also awakened me to new life
From the sleep of death.
And he gives me new life from day to day,
And at some time his fullness is to stream through me,
Life of your life indeed, you yourself:
Holy Spirit eternal life!

Are you the ray
That flashes down from the eternal Judge's throne
And breaks into the night of the soul
That had never known itself?
Mercifully relentlessly
It penetrates hidden folds.
Alarmed at seeing itself,
The self makes space for holy fear,
The beginning of that wisdom
That comes from on high
And anchors us firmly in the heights,
Your action,
That creates us anew:
Holy Spirit ray that penetrates everything!

Are you the spirit's fullness and the power
By which the Lamb releases the seal
Of God's eternal decree?
Driven by you
The messengers of judgment ride through the world
And separate with a sharp sword
The kingdom of light from the kingdom of night.
Then heaven becomes new and new the earth,
And all finds its proper place
Through your breath:
Holy Spirit victorious power!

Are you the master who builds the eternal cathedral,
Which towers from the earth through the heavens?
Animated by you, the columns are raised high
And stand immovably firm.
Marked with the eternal name of God,
They stretch up to the light,
Bearing the dome,
Which crowns the holy cathedral,
Your work that encircles the world:
Holy Spirit God's molding hand!

Are you the one who created the unclouded mirror
Next to the Almighty's throne,
Like a crystal sea,
In which Divinity lovingly looks at itself?
You bend over the fairest work of your creation,
And radiantly your own gaze
Is illumined in return.
And of all creatures the pure beauty
Is joined in one in the dear form
Of the Virgin, your immaculate bride:
Holy Spirit Creator of all!

Are you the sweet song of love
And of holy awe
That eternally resounds around the triune throne,
That weds in itself the clear chimes of each and every being?
The harmony,
That joins together the members to the Head,
In which each one
Finds the mysterious meaning of his being blessed
And joyously surges forth,
Freely dissolved in your surging:
Holy Spirit eternal jubilation!

Gosh didn't she die in like the early 4o's. She had an amazing life.. went through a lot. Seemed like when me son was in Highscool was when I was reading about her in the concentration camps in Auschwitz.. So sad how many people died there like her.. I hope that's spelled right!..  Anyways My son had to do some stuff on the hollocost etc.

Rose Petals

Rest, a break, a sheltered day, a little place to hide away!
A time out, some me time, a little smile and some free time.

Protected, covered, hidden away, camoflaged behind another day.
Restless worry, endless love, joy and sadness, all of the above.

Darkness and light, are my old friends, Please help me find my way back home to you again...

Stolen moments lost in time with my heart, that I can't find..a quiet place to rest my head, no comfort in a warm soft bed...

Sweet memories of a love so true, and sweet dreams that are shared by two.. filling my eyes with tears of joy treasuring a love between a girl and a boy.

Seasons come and seasons go and friendship florishes and love still grows..take the petal from the rose, the sweetest frangrance from it flows...

And as they fall one by one they wither and dry beneath the sun, the pedals and what remains are sweet and warm like a summer rain..

The fragrance strong, still in my mind a treasure to hold through out all time...

Thus flows this joy within our hearts, and a perfect knowledge of what friendship starts..

Look At Me

Look at me a puppet on a string, look at me I can dance and sing!

Look at me dancing 'round, look out world it's just a clown.

Look at me dancing, reeling, spining; watch out, the world is winning!

Look at me down on the floor. I've spun round,and can stand no more;

Look at me, skinned my knees, funny thing that's not what bleeds!

Look at me, just a clown, nobody knows, that I've fallen down.

Look at me, look at me, don't look too close, my tears you'll see.

A little kid she was,
with ten years of age
She woke up one April morning,
for school to leave,
She washed up her angelic face,
Brushed her little teeth,
And fixed her silky black hair
Running to her mom she asked,
"Mammy, shall I pray or eat first?"
"No sweety, prayers come first."
She prayed and for breakfast she sat.

****

The school bus horn blew outside
"Mammy, it is time to say goodbye"
She kissed her mom
Woke up her dad,
Grabbed her school bag
And with her sisters she left
She got into the bus...
As usual singing, laughing
Showing her friends the apples,
chocolate and the food she had.
The kids chattering excitedly
and whispering
About the teachers in school
The guardian and the friends
Then all of the sudden,
A tense moment of silence spread
Their mouths hanged open
And the color their face left

****

What’s going on?"they asked"
The same bus,
They take daily for school
At the village’s exit,
With unusual speed moved
"No, No it can’t be
The driver will never
Increase the speed,
We always asked him to do
And he never did!!
Why now he is?"

******

The warning came!!!!!
The bus driver desperately announced
"Little kids, in danger we are
Please sit on the floor
And with your hands grab the iron bars"
The little kids
On the floor they sat
And to the Heavens
Their humble, innocent pleas raised
Oh Gracious God,
Kids watching death with their eyes?
How it feels??
The little kid beside her sisters sat
And the few almonds in her hand she had
Gave them to her sisters to eat
How sweet you were

And it was a moment when
A loud scream struck the sky...
It woke me up from a dream
A dead and red pigeon
is in my brothers’ hands?!!
And a beautiful colorful bird
In heaven stands?
The same scream...
Make her mom run to the street
And her grandma from the balcony leap
They knew nothing
But they are Mothers.
They feel!!!!!!!

****

Screams, Screams,
As thunder struck the sky
The news spread everywhere
The parents rushed to see their kids
lying under the bus with fear
All were alive but not she

Her head was beside her sisters
They are fine
But not she

All Alive
But not she
...

Life ceased there on a scene
A mother with a broken heart
How it feels?
On the street she knelt
With her daughter
On her lap, dead
God, how it feels??
These are the last moments
Her daughter can see
With running tears,
And broken heart
Embraced her kid
Close to her heart
how much she wished
she can again breathe
"Take my heart and breathe
Take my heart and say
One single word, not more, please
please...........please
"God don’t take her away from me"

****

She carried her
Between her arms
on her feet
Back to the house!
Where she had the last kiss
She laid her on the little bed
And there above her head
She sat playing with her hair
"No she can’t be dead"

****

She didn’t want to leave her
But they did take her to a different bed
Her mom’s soul was ripped apart
And no one can, could or would
repair
She still visits her
Talk to her about school
And how much she misses her[

****

It had been for three years
But always feels today to me
And the best days
is when she visits
me in the dreams.

Oh my, what a guy!
If it werent for my heart I would just sigh!
The heart betrayeth me
and my eyes won't let me see!
Just how young he is
Like the wind is his!

A little kid she was,
with ten years of age
She woke up one April morning,
for school to leave,
She washed up her angelic face,
Brushed her little teeth,
And fixed her silky black hair
Running to her mom she asked,
"Mammy, shall I pray or eat first?"
"No sweety, prayers come first."
She prayed and for breakfast she sat.

****

The school bus horn blew outside
"Mammy, it is time to say goodbye"
She kissed her mom
Woke up her dad,
Grabbed her school bag
And with her sisters she left
She got into the bus...
As usual singing, laughing
Showing her friends the apples,
chocolate and the food she had.
The kids chattering excitedly
and whispering
About the teachers in school
The guardian and the friends
Then all of the sudden,
A tense moment of silence spread
Their mouths hanged open
And the color their face left

****

What’s going on?"they asked"
The same bus,
They take daily for school
At the village’s exit,
With unusual speed moved
"No, No it can’t be
The driver will never
Increase the speed,
We always asked him to do
And he never did!!
Why now he is?"

******

The warning came!!!!!
The bus driver desperately announced
"Little kids, in danger we are
Please sit on the floor
And with your hands grab the iron bars"
The little kids
On the floor they sat
And to the Heavens
Their humble, innocent pleas raised
Oh Gracious God,
Kids watching death with their eyes?
How it feels??
The little kid beside her sisters sat
And the few almonds in her hand she had
Gave them to her sisters to eat
How sweet you were

And it was a moment when
A loud scream struck the sky...
It woke me up from a dream
A dead and red pigeon
is in my brothers’ hands?!!
And a beautiful colorful bird
In heaven stands?
The same scream...
Make her mom run to the street
And her grandma from the balcony leap
They knew nothing
But they are Mothers.
They feel!!!!!!!

****

Screams, Screams,
As thunder struck the sky
The news spread everywhere
The parents rushed to see their kids
lying under the bus with fear
All were alive but not she

Her head was beside her sisters
They are fine
But not she

All Alive
But not she
...

Life ceased there on a scene
A mother with a broken heart
How it feels?
On the street she knelt
With her daughter
On her lap, dead
God, how it feels??
These are the last moments
Her daughter can see
With running tears,
And broken heart
Embraced her kid
Close to her heart
how much she wished
she can again breathe
"Take my heart and breathe
Take my heart and say
One single word, not more, please
please...........please
"God don’t take her away from me"

****

She carried her
Between her arms
on her feet
Back to the house!
Where she had the last kiss
She laid her on the little bed
And there above her head
She sat playing with her hair
"No she can’t be dead"

****

She didn’t want to leave her
But they did take her to a different bed
Her mom’s soul was ripped apart
And no one can, could or would
repair
She still visits her
Talk to her about school
And how much she misses her[

Brightly swaying daffodils

Hadrian Boyle-Fawsitt(1956-)

and know too that I am
never truly alone or lost
for we all travel together
this way is always linked
just as flowers that grow
live to shed a final petal
though their beauty is still
there to fill our minds instinct
with such sweet and bitter sent
that captures our true wildness
like many thousand trumpets
of brightly swaying daffodils
sounding out our joy and pain

Our Eternal Ocean
By Hadrian Boyle-Fawsitt (1956-)

Born of our eternal ocean
between the now and forever
a forgotten future has begun
in hushed pungent measure
the child beneath draws berth
and steps on a bright dusty path
domed in blue adorned in green
each step is lifted by an angel
in perfect bliss and joy sublime
each stride spanning an eternity
each pace an adventure in possibility
into the unknown that’s yet to be
made and shaped in the thoughts
then like a road of precious gems
nestled is a sapphire sky of light
we rest in the hands of pure truth
raised up in loves magnificence
like a single drop of precious water
we dissolve within our eternal ocean
