I hear that someone here called Chris is an expert on D.N.A etc.
My mother who was adopted has found her real brother but doesnt know if they shared both the same mother and father. Is it possible, using D.N.A from both my mother and her 'brother', to see if they share the same parents? Please reply soon! Thanks

I'm not called Chris, but...
you'd expect full sibs to share 50% of DNA, half sibs 25%.
There are loads of private companies out there who'll take your money to do a test (I used google search terms: dna sibling shared 50%). I think they select a few genes on different chromosomes and measure the number of genes which are shared with those that aren't. The confidence with which they can say how close a relationship is will of course depend on how many genes they test as it's a statistical thing.

Ooo thanks Rosy for that. Is it expensive for this DNA testing?

Good question - I'd have posted it in the medicine section myself, but there we are !
Anyway, have a read of this article I wrote with Dalya Rosner about the process of Genetic (DNA) fingerprinting (http://www.thenakedscientists.com/HTML/articles/article/dalyacolumn8.htm)
And then ask any further questions that you need for clarification.

Try using the adoption agencies, online sites to find out about your now
extended and adoptive family. Good luck.
