Title: A Third Person May Reach the Challenger Deep. Guess Who?

Yep. The bottom of the Mariana Trench. None other than our favorite Hollywood producer who sidelines as a marine researcher, James Cameron. The man is already famous for his research and photographic dives to Titanic. Now he wants to be only the third person to ever reach the deepest place on the ocean floor, and as a solo mission to boot!

The sub is apparently festooned with lights and high-end cameras - shame there is no one on board who can shoot a decent movie!

In the end, it appears that Cameron didn't discover much more than Piccard and Walsh did, i.e. mostly nothing. And I was SO hoping for a shot of the giant seaweed monster that grabbed Seaview!

BC - I think he's keeping schtum on the cost, but National Geographic and Rolex (watches for people who can tell the time in diamonds and gold) have shared the cost.
