I was told about a rife machine and its use of sound frequencies to help heal the body or rid it of bacteria etc. Can anyone explain how it works, and or, if there is any substantial science behind the basic principal?
-
Sounds like nonsense to me... by and large I'd view with suspicion anything which claims to "heal the body" without a much more specific explanation of possible mechanisms.
Here's the wikipedia page:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Royal_Rife
The claims seem to me pretty implausible, Rife's original results couldn't be replicated, various people pedalling modern devices claining to be based on Rife's have been prosecuted for health fraud, which suggests their instruments have been tested and found not to be as advertised.

I must say I sat through 1 session and found it highly hard.. I had just been in the hospital and then had an appointment for this..and I fell asleep holding these rather bogus looking tubes in my hands with frequencies being sent to my body to promote healing of what she thinks is lime disease.. She said she believes I have lime disease on top of many other things.. I felt the whole thing was a bit hoakie... I must say the sound vibrations however did make my inner ears itch like a son of a gun and it stopped when I released the tubes...LOL... I just wanted to know if there was really anything too it...
Thanks Rosy for that...I did however not now about the convictions for fraud.. Thank you so much!

How could you judge whether or not a antibiotic worked if you only took 1/2 of the first dose?
Rife can and does work for many who give it a serious try. However, do not expect it to be perfect. It has been suppressed since the 1930's so the research is far from being complete.

I HAVE NOW HAD SEVERAL SESSIONS AT 5 TO 6 HOURS A SESSION..FOLLOWED BY A FULL FOOT DETOX SESSION...AFTER THE RIFE SESSION.. I HAVE SINCE BEEN TESTED REPEATEDLY AT MY DOCTORS AND A LYME SPECIALIST AND THEY ALL CONCUR THAT I HAVE CHRONIC LYME DISEASE I KNOW WHEN I WAS BIT AND HAD THE BULLSEYE..BUT IT WAS OVER 16 YEARS AGO AND I HAD NO WHAT LYME WAS SO JUST ASSUMED I HAD A INFECTION FROM THE BITE..NEVER SAW THE DOCTOR FOR IT. SO HAVE BEEN BEING TREATED FOR ABOUT A YEAR NOW...I HAVE HAD TO BASICALLY DROP THE RIFE MACHINE BUT ONLY DUE TO FINANCIAL RESTRAINTS.. I ALSO HAVE A DIAGNOSIS OF BIOTOXIN ILLNESS ON TOP AND AS FAR AS THE TOXIN. WHEN THE TESTS WERE RUN I WAS WAY OUT NEAR THE POINT OF NO RETURN.. MY LEVELS WERE MARKED AT OVER 18,600 MARKERS AND NORMAL SHOULD HAVE BEEN DOWN
AROUND 7000 MARKERS... THE POINT OF NO RETURN I WAS TOLD IS 20,000..AS IT IS SHE IS NOT SURE TREATMENT WILL SUCCEED OR NOT.. SO WE WILL SEE.. THE TREATMENT MAKES ME FEEL WORSE THEN BEFORE BUT I UNDERSTAND THAT TO BE
THE NORM....
ZAPPER DAVE I AGREE THAT ONCE DOES NOT DETERMINE WEATHER ANYTHING WORKS SO I HAVE HAD MORE SESSIONS. IT ACTUALLY PUT ME OUT COLD FOR HOURS ON END WHICH WAS GOOD CAUSE MY SLEEP IS SO SPOTTY.... SO WE WILL SEE.IF AT SOME POINT WE INTEND TO COMBINE THE TREATMENTS...THANKS FOR YOUR INPUT.

Does it have any effect on bacteria or viruses growing in vitro? If not I'd be skeptical too.
One thing thats interesting and I have no idea if there's any real science done on it, is people meditating to music and sounds of various frequency that is supposed to induce alpha or delta waves in the brain.
And another thing I heard but dont know if its true is that supposedly "haunted houses" where people claim to feel a sudden cold chill may have noise at really low frequencies.

Karen, I am interested in hearing about your experience since your last post. I too have experienced Rife treatments in various forms. Some were beneficial and others were not. As mentioned in the post from R.D., I do have an interest in electro-therapy of a different form but consider Rife therapy to be a good option provided it is done correctly. My leaning is more toward using the <removed> as I have had real success with it. I also believe that the <removed> and protocol can be very effective although I am not directly involved with it.
I am wondering why the Rife therapy put you out as this is unusual from what I have heard from others.

Cheryl, you present a very good point. This is the rule of standard that I appreciate. If you place a slide of living microbes under the microscope and you see them literally become immobilized, swell up, explode and disintegrate before your eyes, is is not just convincing, it is impressive.
Does it have any effect on bacteria or viruses growing in vitro? If not I'd be skeptical too.

Intense ultrasound is sometimes used to break up kidney stones, using lithotripsy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Extracorporeal_shock_wave_lithotripsy).
However, it can cause bruising of the skin & kidneys...
