We answered this question on the show...

Lorraine -   There are exercises that you can do using your arms and the rest of your body that will generate aerobic activity.  So, I don’t think it’s the case that people who can't move very easily can't do any exercise.  It’s more difficult if you can't, but I certainly think that you can lift weights and do exercises with the upper part of your body that would help to increase your cardiovascular health.
Ben -   I think there must be a range of physiotherapy things you could do.  I certainly see people using hand bikes where you pedal along, but instead of using your feet, you're using your hands.
Lorraine -   Yes.

And, of course, many of the wheelchair racers are extraordinary athletes.
It may depend on the individual though.

One could also swim, using only the upper body.  There are also water aerobics in many communities.

Many weight and exercise machines are designed to stress the upper body.  Some could be used aerobically.

Swimming sounds like your best option. Even moving the muscles in your legs a bit shouldn't put too much stress on the hip and ball joint when you're in the water. I don't know how severe your hip problem is, but if you're not in danger of a fracture from falling, cross country skiing is fairly gentle on the hips (compared to the pounding effect of running or aerobics.)

update.. My arm is healing slowly but deformed because he did not want to do the long surgery so he has made me a hard spint after they removed my third cast.. The ulna bone y fracture/ healed properly but no sign of healing of the radius bone.. As of 3 weeks ago.. But as of this week I am using my arm lightly with and without the brace..  So back to the pool I will go. In the mean time I had engaged in chair aerobics.. Exercises that are done while sitting or being supported by a chair, depending on the nature of your particular disabilities you can do a real variety of exercises that help upper and lower body as well as tummy... If you want some examples feel free to shoot me a message and I will be glad to share some of them with anyone interested... Good luck to you!
