Dear Members,
I just joined a few days ago. I am Dave and live in Butler county Ohio. I have been collecting artifacts and strange rocks for 35 years.(I study geology as a hobby)
From what I have learned on the internet, I took a collage level geology test (Igneous rocks) and got a 78%.
For only internet training, I think I did well? I can Identify most rocks in the 3 major groups.
But that is why I search for Strange rocks and meteorites, (I have 30 meteorites that I have bought)
I am lucky to live in the Glacier belt cause once in a while you find a one of a kind rock that is hard to identify. (So that is where you come in! LOL), I know it is hard, I find that it is funny how you can find a strange rock, AND NEVER FIND A PICTURE OF A SIMLAR ROCK ON THE NET! and wonder what process created it. (I have basic ideas, but there not BLACK-WHITE!
In the next few days I will post my most bizar basalt and 2 bizar metamorphic rocks and see if anyone can provide any help.
I have been on many Geology web. fourms, from what I have seen so far "THIS IS THE BEST!"

I have a rock I found a few years ago... A magnet will weakly stick to in several places. It is naturally shiny (unpolished). Perhaps I could make a fortune off of it [:)] Especially since I know there are more rocks like it where it came from [;D]

What a 1st warm welcome, If the rest of the members are like you two, perhaps I was wrong? This is not the best geology fourm on the net?
1st of all I belong to the meteorite list (met-list) as so is Dr. Ted Bunch and Dr. Randy Korotex. (Washington University)
2nd, I have meteorites obtained from top sellers like "Greg Hupe".....Gary Fujihara,....Arizona sky meteorites and Eric Wickmen MeteoritesUSA.

That being said, Let me tell you about meteorites,
Fresh chondrites: Have fusion crust(some diogentites may not)
Density > then 3.0
may or may not have regmaglypts
Will be magnetic (HED... TYPE METEORITES MAY NOT BE MAGNETIC AS WELL AS ACHONDRITES)
Will most likly have iron nickel flakes
And May or maynot have Chondrules that you can see.
So (RD)and CliffordK just because I Posted in my 1st post on this fourm, That I know a little about geology,
2, I collect strange rocks
and 3,because I have a collection of 30 meteorites,
You guys become Sarcastic, and So-unprofessional!!!!!........I could go on and on! ( you did not see my strange rocks, which i did not imply they were meteorites(there not) and you did not see my meteorites, before you made your comments!
One more thing RD, You have 5 gold stars above your name,,4000+++ post, were all 4000+++post like this, I sure hope not. For the sake of the students!!!!!!!!

Sorry... Oh... and Welcome.
I didn't mean to seem like I was judging your meteorites without knowing anything about them. Nor judging what you've found or purchased.
My comment was more directed at the comment above that many available were either fakes, or terrestrial rocks that people haven't bothered to get checked out. I was amazed that the highest valued auctions weren't registered. Same thing with fossils.
Topics can ramble a bit.
I found the linked page above to be quite interesting... What is obvious is that one can not judge a stone by any single feature. Or 2 or 3 features in isolation.

This is not "the best geology fourm on the net” * : other forums specifically dedicated to geology are superior,
however their numerous monomaniacal members would be much better at spotting bogus meteorites.

Dear Freinds,
Could we please start over.
As obvious in my first post, I did not come here to sell anything. I bought meteorites from professionals to study, then to donate to schools to inspire students in education.
I am only seeking help that someone can identify some strange metamorphic "terrestrial" rocks that I will post photos of today. That there might be a geolgist on here that has expertise in the process that may have formed these rocks and what catagorey of rock they fall into.
Thanks for any help.

Notwithstanding the reactions above, (I think there some forum regulars are a bit jaded by "spam by nighters" who don't contribute back into the Forum) I for one would be interested in pictures of igneous / metamorphic rocks.
Bass and Jim Bob are the ones to impress - although I tend to ignore JB's lunatic insistance that sedimentary rocks are interesting too.

Always love to have another "rocker" around (especially a hard-rocker). JimBob, that old softie, will add his two cents when he gets back on his feet.
The glacial train of the Canadian Shield would provide some unique specimens. Love to see whatever you've found. Sounds like an impressive collection.
Will be great to have a meteorite expert about. Do you know much about impact craters? I have some interesting breccias that may be related to ancient impacts.

of my self was just a miss understanding.
So I beleave the moderators of this fourm Should just Delete this thread I started as a introduction, (for the sake of young childern and students who may want to post on here) We don't want to scare them off, from posting what they found.
I have many detailed photos of my rocks, My 1st I think I will up-load to face book and provide a link to you all in a new thread. That way I dont up load 7-8 photos here.

I wasn’t going to contribute any further to this thread but as Daverocks is attempting to have my posts deleted from it, (and using young "childern" (sic) as hostages to do it), I feel obliged to respond to his cack-handed attempt at censorship.
Set scepticism to maximum, (and mods please don’t delete my posts from this thread).
BTW despite Dave allegedly being a middle-aged native English speaker, who allegedly got 78% in a college geology exam, so presumably can spell six-syllable geological terms, cannot spell everyday english words correctly,
e.g. “beleave” , “childern”, "miss understanding", “bizar” (twice) , and “fourm” (twice) [???]

I think it would be interesting to share some of the more unique specimens in a collection, hopefully not leading to any "my rock is bigger than your rock" arguments. [xx(]
The variety of different rocks found on the world (or in space) is extraordinary.

Since you asked, no I’d never heard of the “met-list” before you mentioned it.
( nor did I know it was possible to be “kicked off” it , until you mentioned it).
