Title: Researching the "Elements" of our universe for a SciFi/Fantasy novel.©
Post by: Moorgan on 24/11/2010 15:51:07
I'm writing a science fiction novel and looking for input on certain scientific elements of the novel, trying to make it as accurate/inclusive as possible. I've already gotten permission from Chris Smith to research my novel here. Right now the thing I need to get down are the element cycles because every character in the book is dependent on this. I designed the calendar to have 12 elemental cycles© but if it turns out I have to have it be a different amount I can recalculate it, though it would be a pain. I'm trying to include everything in the universe in these elements, from physical matter, to EMR, et cetera. I have unique names for the cycles but I wont be listing them here, for now they'll be known as groups. I'll list the groups I have, let me know if there is anything that wouldn't fit into these groups, whether it be physical matter or something else.
Group 1: Network covalent materials: Boron, Carbon (diamond, graphite), Silicon (quartz). Sugar, salt, and gems also included.
Group 2: Things with a similar molecular bond to water. Things like water, alcohol, et cetera. (I plan on just throwing in all the common liquids, I can't really find a scientific reason to group them all together but it makes it easier)
Group 3: Anything that comes from plants or animals, biological material.
Group 4: The ability to effect the frequency of our brain to manipulate the senses, et cetera. (What would that be called if you know?)
Group 5: Things with the same molecular makeup as the air we breathe. (Again, just throwing in common gases)
Group 6: Electromagnetic Radiation: Light, Radio Waves, X-Rays, et cetera.
Group 7: The ability to effect atoms, rip them apart creating fire, an explosion, or electricity.
Group 8: Materials from the ground, rocks and minerals.
Group 9: Acids, Poisons, Plastic. (This was just electricity originally but electricity fit into G7 and these didn't fit anywhere so I gave them their own group, besides all being made by chemicals I can't think of a scientific reason to group them together but I don't know what else to do)
Group 10: Metals (Common metals)
Group 11: The material souls are made from. (In the book the material will be abundant in nature so they can use it to recreate animals/people even objects for a short time.)
Group 12: Dark Matter, Anti-Matter, et cetera. Can be used to control things like gravity and time.

If you can think of anything I'm missing or a better way to group things let me know.

Brainwave synchronization (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brainwave_synchronization) ?

psychotropic ? (http://www.thefreedictionary.com/psychotropic)

I meant what is the frequency our brains run on called.

I meant what is the frequency our brains run on called.

The name of the frequency band depends on what the brain is doing ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electroencephalography#Comparison_table

Those are different frequencies of the same kind of signal though right? Isn't there a difference between that kind of signal and the kind of signal waves that make up electromagnetic radiation? (such as light, radio waves, micro waves, xrays, et cetera)

Modify:
I'm looking for a term that sums up all those frequencies on the link you sent me, if there is one.

Isn't there a difference between that kind of signal [brainwaves] and the kind of signal waves that make up electromagnetic radiation? (such as light, radio waves, micro waves, xrays, et cetera)

Brainwaves and other forms of Bio-electricity (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bioelectromagnetism) also produce electromagnetic radiation.

I'm looking for a term that sums up all those frequencies on the link you sent me, if there is one.

They are brainwaves (of different frequency)
