Why do black sweaters collect white lint?

Actually they do, hold a black sweater up under a black light it glows white, but if you hold somethign with dark coloured lint on it under the light it doesnt glow...

A white shirt will eventually collect black (or dark) coloured lint because it gets dirty, but what makes the lint white on a black shirt?

Maybe the lint is a mixture of black and white everywhere. The colour of your clothing will therefore effect the visibility of the lint. A black material will show the white lint clearly because of the large contrast. It will still have black lint on it but you won't be able to see it because it blends in.
