These properties are usually associated with the propagation of light or any other wave energy through a medium

A homogeneous medium has uniform properties throughout its volume.  That is it does not have lumps of different stuff in it.

An isotropic medium has similar properties in any direction of travel for waves through that medium.
Some crystalline materials have different velocities of propagation in different directions or for different forms of polarisation of the wave.  This is because they are regularly structured at the molecular level by their crystalline form
