I have read they can be found amoungst moss but I have had no luck so far. Is there a particular moss or location they are more likely to be found?

« on: 05/04/2021 21:59:02 »
Can anyone recommend an simple, affordable microscope that I would be able to view things like Tardigrades etc?

Just Chat! / Bio-cellular combustion engine?
« on: 25/10/2019 17:38:46 »
Would it one day be plausable that we produce an engine that uses cells to produce the energy needed to operate the mechanics of a machine?

6
Cells, Microbes & Viruses / Are all of the body's different cell types nonetheless eukaryotic cells?
« on: 25/10/2019 16:14:45 »
I have just started my journey into biology and have learnt about the Eurkaryote cells but then I have heard mention of different cells all over the body eg hair cells, skin cells etc. Are these all classed as Eurkaryote cells and are their make up the same??

Chemistry / (CONFUSED) Water fuelled car engine possible?
« on: 11/08/2019 15:30:46 »
My school science lessons taught me that water can be split and I have read of some high profile attempts at producing a water fuelled engine. Wikipedia lists quite a few but they all seem to eventually be shot down by science. What is the problem and is it actually posibble?

8
Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Rainbows on Venus?
« on: 03/04/2019 19:57:16 »
I have read that it rains, albeir sulphuric acid, on Venus and wondered whether rainbows could possibly be visable?

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / Fishy humans?
« on: 22/11/2017 23:13:13 »
If life first started on Earth within the seas does that then mean that somewhere deep within us, perhaps in our DNA, there are still remnants of our watery past?

10
Cells, Microbes & Viruses / Are any viral infections good for our health?
« on: 08/07/2017 22:50:24 »
Is there such a thing as a 'good virus', one that infects us with positives results? If not can't we produce any? Could they not be produced to destroy more harmful ones?

11
Cells, Microbes & Viruses / When did bacterial and viral diseases first emerge on Earth?
« on: 16/11/2016 17:09:38 »
At what point in the evolution of life on Earth did diseases and viruses start to appear?

12
Chemistry / Why are new materials difficult to produce?
« on: 20/11/2015 13:02:57 »
If we know the periodic table why does it take so long to produce new materials etc?

13
Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Do we know where the centre of the Universe is located?
« on: 20/09/2015 22:52:19 »
Scientists know the location of the centre of our galaxy but do we know where the centre of the universe is?

14
Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / What happens to electrons that leave batteries?
« on: 14/10/2013 23:27:44 »
If batteries provide the 'force' to get electrons in a circuit moving what happens to them when they reach the end of the circuit? What if all the electrons in the circuit have reached the end of the circuit won't it have 'run out' of them? Does the battery actually provide electrons??  :o

15
Chemistry / Is Earth losing water?
« on: 02/10/2013 21:11:16 »
Is the Earth losing it's water? Has it the same amount as when the seas first formed or is it very slowly disappearing, if possible(?)

« on: 24/07/2013 22:24:19 »
When it comes to inheriting family traits from a previous generation how far can the genetic history go back to? Do my genes store traits from every generation in my families past?

17
Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / How fast do electrons move in a current-carrying wire?
« on: 03/06/2013 21:39:43 »
How fast to the electrons move in a wire when it is connected to a battery and what happns to them when they reach the end?
