Title: Blondes for a good time, brunettes for security?
Post by: NakedScientist on 09/09/2002 18:55:40
Apparently men go for blondes for a good time yet favour brunettes for 'security'.

So where does this leave women with ginger hair ?![;)]

I read somewhere the other day that ginger haired people have the fewest hairs on their head, compared with blonds, who have the most hairs, and black haired people, who have the thickest hair.

Do men who shave their heads, to become "pseudo-bald" have equivalent luck with women as their "truly-bald" peers ?!

Sorry, but I don't fancy bald men whatsoever. Patrick Stewart has got a very sexy voice though ![:D]

there's a really good article by Dalya Rosner on the naked scientists site about baldness and what causes it by the way :

Does ginger hair mean red, brown, or auburn?  And don't you think that the texture or number of hairs on your head has more to do with genetics than color?

Don't like bald men in particular either, but that's not the end all in what makes a man sexy.  And I can definitely overlook bald for Patrick Stewart's voice.  But I'm always curious.  Why is is that more men don't go for hair transplants?  The technique is much better now so that the transplants are more natural looking.  And why do some men go bald all over instead of the ring around the bottom?  I know it's genetic, but seems very rare.  Is that some recessive trait?

I believe that baldness is a complex trait, where you may inherit different combinations of various genes from both of your parents, plus you have environmental/hormonal factors influencing expression of the various genes. I guess that's why hairloss is different in different men.

If a man goes partially bald, shave it all off I say. That can look quite sexy IMO![;)]

Its brunettes for me. I don't agree with the statement at all though!

I agree with you Rich, I certainly don't agree with the statement with regards to my personal tastes, but I do remember seeing the results of a study ,and as a generalisation I believe it might be correct....though If I recall correctly it was a tabloid reporting it when I saw it......and over the years we've all been conditioned to accept the phrase 'Blondes have more fun' !

"Men prefer blondes, but they marry brunettes." is the original quote. "Blondes have more fun." was coined in a 1960's Miss Clairol advertising blitz. I remember that ad next to one for Brylcream. Is it true? I don't know, since it's just a saying.

Well guys, having been a blonde, brunette, and redhead, I can tell you that blondes get more attention.

I think blonde hair is visually striking which explains why blondes might initially get more attention. However in the workplace it is better to be a brunette as I think they are taken more seriously. I went blonde once - well went banana yellow at the roots fading into tangerine orange at the tips...I can tell you that the 24 hours I had to stay as a 'blonde' before I made it to the hairdressers to dye it back to dark brown were not fun in the slightest. Ok so that it probably not a good measure of whether blondes have more fun, but I can have an awful lot of fun and I'm not thinking about what colour my hair is at the time! [:D]

I can certainly say that blondes get much more attention in countries, and from nationals of those countries, where they are a relatively rare occurance. and personally I don't find that much fun.

I don't find that I'm taken less seriously than my brunette colleagues, although I guess I don't know what they're thinking. but I can blame my ditzy moments on my hair colour!

I completely agree with you there Lindsay.......I was in the Arab market in Jerusalem with my my girlfriend at the time, who was totally blonde...and the comments and attention she had was most unsettling... I had people offering me inducements to allow them to 'familiarise' themselves with her !!

Went to Romania once. There are blondes there but not that many and often they have dyed hair. My friend Bronia who has very light blonde hair did get stared at quite a lot. That kind of attention isn't nice. I'd heard that Egypt can be bad for that.

Someone I know with a very blond daughter (who was about 12 at the time) was offered the princely sum of 30 camels in exchange for her daughter by an Egyptian. (In egypt of course)

I think peroxide blondes look rather unattractive! My brother put sun-in in my hair once and i went ginger. I won't be allowing that again!

Not too sure what the exchange rate is but I suspect that was quite a good deal ![:)]

my worst experience of being blonde was being followed for two hours in southern spain during siesta, my youth hostel was shut, all the shops were shut and there didn't seem to be anywhere to look for help. was very scary. somehow i don't think it would have happened if i was an olive skinned brunette.
