is it still dark in your cellar?
Quote from: Thebox on 20/08/2017 19:43:18is it still dark in your cellar? Well, you need to ask a fairly simple question. Is it a situation "with little or no light."?Since there are no light sources the answer is yes.Though I may not be able to tell that by looking. The cloud is in the wayFortunately, I have a web cam set up in my cellar so, even from space I should be able to check.Hang on. The signal's not great.Yes, it's still dark.
But you have said the space is not dark, so how is it dark in your cellar if the space is not dark? The space beneath the cloud is the same sort of space as above the cloud with the exception of a medium of gases

Why can't you understand that it is only the wall in the cellar that is dark?
Quote from: Thebox on 20/08/2017 23:24:38Why can't you understand that it is only the wall in the cellar that is dark?Because I also looked at he floor and it was dark.I looked at the table and it was dark.My hands were dark too.In general, it seems to be a property of my cellar that everything in it is darkThat's because it is dark in my cellar.
The air in the cellar is not dark

The floor was dark, the table was dark and my hand was also dark. However I quote yourself QuoteThe air in the cellar is not darkYou recognise it is not really dark dark in your cellar but then insist it is dark in your cellar, do you really mean like I have already said, it is the floor substance that is dark in appearance and it is the table substance that is dark in appearance and my hand substance is dark in appearance but the space between my eye and substance is not dark ? i.e the space in your cellar is not dark , it is not dark in your cellar only the substances are dark. added- quite clearly the objective reasoning shows that darkness only exists of the appearance of a substance and that it is never actually dark. Darkness being an illusion by false subjective perception.
Darkness, the polar opposite to brightness, is understood as a lack of illumination or an absence of visible light (from wiki).

Do you really not recognise that the word dark has more than one meaning, depending on context?Even after I posted a copy of the definitions.Paint is dark if it absorbs light.A place is dark if there's no light.

Yes, that is what I have being saying to the Bored Chemist can you not read or something? Visible light is only of bodies, the bored chemist's cellar is not dark, the substance is. Can you please explain to the bored chemist, I am sick of trying, he seems to think it is dark in the cellar when the objective fact is that all the bodies in the cellar are not illuminated i.e they are dark

Did you not read the rest of my post?
The space is transparent. If the lights are on the space is light. If the lights are off (as in my cellar) the space is dark.Dark isn't just a colour, it's a state.

The space is not light when the light is turned on, the space is not dark when the light is turned off. The space is transparent in state with either light on or off. T.o.e everything is relative to 0∞ (needed put my reminder in here). The transparency state of space is constant like the transparency state of air and the transparent state of water. P.s Understand that when looking at murky water, the water is still clear and transparent , it is the dirt you are observing making the water look murky. p.s I understood what you are trying to say, but yes darkness is the same thing as black in colour you have just not realised it yet. darkness = black when there is no light present , all things turn black in appearance making it seem dark.

I just think that darkness= the absence of the light
