when you have a new bar of soap, you get plenty of bubbles / suds. Yet when the soap is old and tiny it no longer produces bubbles, why?

I have never noticed this will try it today as I have a tiny bar in the shower!

smaller surface area to produce bubbles? i don't know i don't use bar soap...
