We have an interesting breed of birds here in Texas called Grackles...they are most annoying and dramatic in their actions. In fact, in Fort Worth they caused a bit of trouble as to them hanging out and very aggressive with people just a bit...hmmm, trying to figure out if it was because there were so many of them they could overtake people or what? I know they called in some "specialists"(I don't know if it was Grackle Specialist) I heard it on the news...and they were asking everyone to not be in downtown for about an hour and had police barricade a few blocks off and shoot to get rid of birds out of the area..
Does anyone know where these birds migrated from originally?

we have things over here called greckles, they turn up at the beach with a knotted hankie on their head and wearing shorts and a string vest, and they are usually the same colour as a bottle of milk on arrival, and a fresh cooked lobster on departure.

Grackles are just black pigeons. !!!
They try to keep my truck covered with their droppings. At times, the cab is covered with green splotches and a little black paint showing through. SHOOT THEM ALL !!

LOL Love it JimBob! I think many people would agree with you here. I watched one get hit with a car yesterday with my son, thank God he is older or I would've had to check on it...but was amazed as the stupid thing, came back to life(or maybe it didn't die, obviously)and flew away with many feathers missing...we just had to laugh...If I had stopped I would've bowed to it! Surviving that hit!

They are a type of american Blackbird, smaller then a crow I think. I must go visit the link you posted, be back!

Wow those are pretty little birds aren't they, and yeperoo, thats who I thought they were. I thought I better check to make sure memory was serving me right. I have seen these guys alot.

It isn't seeing them that is the most anoying, it is hearing them. They are raucous, annoying bessties. Their call is like a recording of a huge finger nail rakeing across a chalk board, played on a 30 ohm speaker at 200 decibles. They start before daylight and cease only when it is very dark. If there is a nest close to your dwelling, forget sleeping.

The ones here in Texas are not that pretty...yes, I think they are related to the crow with the noise as well as behavior but a bit more aggressive.[B)]People are almost attacked in Fort Worth, eg. setting on benches and birds try to snatch food out of hands or swoop close to their heads..they shut down a few blocks to shoot up in the air to get rid of humongous groups of them!

I like birds singing, but when they are singing that most annoying song...ick! I think the most important part of this is knowing they are becoming aggressive towards people...we could knit them some bird muzzles...you up for a new cause Karen hehe[;)]

No doubt, I was watching the grackles this morning and they were squawking...decided they don't sing...mothers are smaller than the babies for some reason...looks like the babies should be feeding mama birds
