If Tachyons exits, could that be the source of the expansion of the universe?

At present, tachyons are a theoretical possibility, but nobody has any concrete evidence that they are real.
We see expansion of the universe occurring at sub-light speeds, and we infer that there may be unseen regions that have expanded faster than the speed of light.
It is not clear to me how tachyons traveling at speeds greater than c could cause this.
