Do people really eat Gold leaf ??? I did not know that! It is beautiful, but I had no clue!

i didn't think people still ate it...

I tried eating a gold coin once...I broke a tooth !!
-
i think a long time ago it was used to decorate the food and it was actually consumed. but i didn't know that still went on. i'd rather have jewelry

Me too! I don't like it. May be just a mental thing, but it's yucky to me!
-
You definitely couldn't digest it, it will just go straight through you... I think the leaf is so thin that you would have to eat a lot of chocolate before it would be worth mining your feces

Gold Leaf - actually gold in general is inert in the human body. If you consider the fact that aqua regia (Royal Water,) a mixture of nitric and hydrochloric acids is used to dissolve this precious metal, I don't think the weak acids of your stomach will dissolve it. Since it can't be dissolved by us mammals, it also ha no taste.
Gold leaf on food just lays there and says to you "yes, I am so rich I can do this. MY, what do those common, smelly people outside of the palace do. Sigh - LET THEM EAT CAKE! sniff

Excellentay..Thank you Jimmy Boy......Royal Water sounds like a mild toiletry but I gather it puts caustic soda in the shade !!
Why is it called Royal water ?
-
It's called royal because it disolves gold which is the "king" of the metals.
I have't eaten gold but I have drunk it. There's a liquer with gold leaf in it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Goldschl%C3%A4ger
As food additives go it's one of the ones I'm least likely to worry about. It's so inert it just makes for very expensive dietry fiber.
-
I think its the shiny polishish that attracts me. + Gold have a huge history that is put in our brain.

Haven't poo - sorry - you - heard? "marmite mining is SO yesterday".
-
P.S Love the way the attached google add is "Sell unwanted gold..." - we should send them a bucket of turds after eating some gold leaf and see what they make of that...

My girlfriend makes chocolate candy for Christmas presents. Some of them are sprinkled with a gold powder. You just eat it. No taste, just looks. Not too expensive she says. You get a lot of powder for the money.
