Marine Science / Re: What is the extent of chemical and nuclear waste dumping in the oceans?

How much companies pay to store their waste?
As little as possible.
- Anything dumped into the air or rivers is essentially "free" to the dumper
- Which is why legislators need to apply pressure to avoid dangerous dumping by setting legal limits, testing for compliance and applying fines for violators.

Unfortunately, the next lowest-cost option is to tender for someone to take it away:
- Frequently, the lowest-cost tenderer will win the contract
- And they achieve their low cost by taking the waste somewhere which has looser rules
- And/or bribing officials to look the other way
- And/or getting President T.Rump to wind back the powers of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) so that it no longer sets or enforces rules about pollution.

Is a solution possible on a global scale? And on what time scale?

It is noteworthy that there has been almost no media attention for the nuclear waste dump practices in Somalia's oceans. The issue came to light in the 2005 tsunami that caused hundreds of barrels with nuclear waste to wash up on the beach.

In one of the most major articles on the case (+/- #1 in Google among just a few), on 'expertsure.com', it is indicated that the nuclear water dump by Japan in 2023 receives a lot of attention while until now, the nuclear waste dump in Somalia has received almost no attention while the severity of the dumped nuclear waste may be much more significant.

Quote
Yesterday the BBC reported that radiation levels at the crippled Fukushima reactor site are ten million times normal levels. As the oceans near the damaged nuclear plant are becoming contaminated with increasing amounts of nuclear radiation, concerns are growing about how much radioactive poison the planet’s seas can withstand.

However, although it is not receiving anywhere near as much attention as the unfolding disaster in Japan, the massive amounts of illegally dumped radioactive nuclear waste that are still being thrown into Somalia’s oceans potentially could prove to be an even more deadly catastrophe.

In 2008, pirates in Somalia started to hijack ships in the region, hijacking ever more prolific targets, including arms ships, oil tankers and cruise liners, and extracting huge ransoms from their owners.

In Western media, the pirates were presented as savages without mentioning a motive related to toxic waste dumping in Somalia's oceans.

According to some sources however, the pirates acted with a motive related to toxic waste dumping in Somalia's oceans by 🇪🇺 European companies.

Near-death experiences (NDE) also provide evidence that consciousness may not originate in the brain.

The AWARE—AWAreness during REsuscitation study by Sam Parnia, director of the Human Consciousness Project at the University of Southampton may provide evidence that consciousness is independent from the brain.

(2019) Does Consciousness Continue After Brain Flat-line?
How can people brought back from death after cardiac arrest report having experienced lucid and vivid memories and recollections without a functioning brain? The study of near-death experiences is challenging the idea our consciousness originates in the brain.

Video interview about NDE and consciousness: https://www.closertotruth.com/series/what-consciousness-part-3#video-49279

There are people with only 5-10% brain tissue who lead a normal life with a wife and two children, work as municipal officials, and sometimes even have a high IQ and can obtain an academic degree.

A quote from a Belgian philosophy professor:

"Any theory of consciousness has to be able to explain why a person like that, who's missing 90 percent of his neurons, still exhibits normal behaviour," Axel Cleeremans, a professor philosophy of cognitive science from the Université Libre de Bruxelles in Belgium"

tiny bit of a brain:
100%: ####################
5%: #

The French man the Belgian professor speaks of had only 10% brain tissue and lived a normal life with wife and two children. The condition was discovered at a routine hospital check at the age of 45. He had lived a full life with the condition, unnoticed.

There are many similar cases. Professor John Lorber has examined more than 600 cases. One is a math student with home it was discovered that he had merely 5% brain tissue.

Remarkable story of maths genius who had almost no brain

The student was bright, having an IQ of 126. The doctor noticed that the student's head seemed a little larger than normal and he referred him to Dr Lorber for further examination. Dr Lorber examined the boy's head by Cat-scan to discover that the student had virtually no brain.

Dr Lorber systematically studied hydrocephalus and documented over 600 scans of people with this condition. He divided them into four groups: people with nearly normal brains; those with between 50 per cent and 70 per cent of the cranium filled with fluid; those with 70 per cent to 90 per cent of the cranium filled with fluid; those with 95 per cent of the cranium filled with fluid. The latter group constituted less than 10 per cent of the study and half of these people were profoundly mentally disabled. However, the other half had IQs over 100.

"I can't say whether the mathematics student with an IQ of 126 had a brain weighing 50 grams or 150 grams, but it is clear it is nowhere near the normal 1.5kg and much of the brain he does have is in the more primitive deep structures that are relatively spared in hydrochephalus".

My questions are:

1. How is it possible that people with merely 5% brain tissue can lead a normal life and even manage to reach the final exam of an academic study with the condition unnoticed?

2. What explains ESP and remote viewing where conscious experiences can exist at a distance?

3. What explains near-death experiences (NDE) where clear conscious experiences appear to be possible during 'brain flatline', with accurate descriptions of details?

The film Third Eye Spies markets itself as 'a true story'.
It is just a movie so they can say it is a true story even if it isn't.  It isn't illegal to fib.

The film is made by a physicist and retired senior staff scientist from Lockheed-Martin and many peers, who are regular scientists that worked for the Government on remote viewing.

In my opinion, keeping an open mind for what may be possible, certainly in light of the information present, is important.

This topic was not intended to advocate on behalf of ESP and I would not be the appropriate topic author for such a discussion. However, given the references such as the film thirdeyespies.com and for example the International Remote Viewing Association https://www.irva.org/ the mere possibility could be used for the argument that exploration of the optional use of ESP for Cosmology, may be applicable.

Better sooner than later, when it concerns the mere 'consideration' of something that may be possible and applicable.

If ESP is possible, as some scientists claim and the real world evidence (Government remote viewing program, Government funded Stanford R&D facility etc) seem to indicate...

- could ESP be used for Cosmology? If so, how?
- what information could ESP help to discover?
- could ESP be used for discovering planets of developed civilizations?

Which part of "it does not exist" are you failing to understand?

Such a bold claim does not seem to be fair. It is contentious at most, considering the fact that there are scientists that claim the contrary.

Keeping an open mind for what may be possible, seems to be applicable in this case.

Marine Science / What is the extent of chemical and nuclear waste dumping in the oceans?
« on: 22/12/2021 09:40:22 »
I recently learned that European companies are dumping nuclear waste from hospitals and factories in Europe in Somalia's unregulated ocean coastline.

Quote
🇺🇳 UN envoy to Somalia: ‘Somebody is dumping nuclear material here. There is also lead, and heavy metals such as cadmium and mercury.’ Much of it can be traced back to European 🏥 hospitals and factories.

Some of the waste such as hexachlorobenzene (HCB) is denied for processing in Europe and is therefor dumped in Somalia’s oceans. Locals report that German and Danish shipping companies recently dumped 60,000 barrels of HCB from Australia.

One gram of HCB is enough to contaminate one billion gallons (over 3 billion litres) of water.

A recent study (2019) by Royal Society of Chemistry showed that Humpback whales are getting sick by HCB contamination, causing a variety of health effects, DNA damage and cancer. HCB dominates the contaminant profiles in whales.

Another example: Off the coast of Los Angeles, as many as half a million barrels of the potent and highly toxic insecticide DDT are scattered across the ocean floor, waiting to be released into the water. This was discovered a few years ago by a Los Angeles Times investigation. DDT has already been found in Southern California 🐬 dolphins and a recent study linked DDT to an aggressive cancer in 🦭 sea lions.

https://www.latimes.com/projects/la-coast-ddt-dumping-ground/

Upon further research I discovered that the scale of the dumping of waste is much bigger than many people may expect.

(2021) Scientists: “there are massive chemical dumps in the ocean we know almost nothing about”
Industrial companies have used the ocean as a dumping ground for toxic waste. Hazardous industrial chemicals and radioactive waste have been accumulating in the ocean for 150 years.

Industrial companies treat the ocean as a bottomless pit with the idea “out of sight, out of mind”.

A ticking time bomb is lying beneath the surface of many European seas. It is estimated that German parts of the North Sea and the Baltic Sea alone contain some 1.6 million metric tonnes of relic munitions. These conventional and chemical weapons threaten human life and the marine environment. The weapons, TNT and other explosives slowly decay, releasing harmful substances like cytotoxic, genotoxic, and carcinogenic chemicals into the water.

After 10 years of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear disaster, the 🇯🇵 Japanese government has decided on Tuesday, April 13th 2021, to start releasing radioactive water into the Pacific Ocean in 2023. According to a German Marine Scientific Research Institute, once the waters are dumped in the ocean, radioactive materials could spread to most of the Pacific Ocean within 57 days and all oceans within a decade, which could cause a disaster for marine life.

---

According to the following article, industrial companies dump a minimum of 180 million tons of toxic chemical and radioactive waste into the oceans per year. By comparison, American society produces 120 tons of waste per year.

https://earthisland.org/journal/index.php/articles/entry/over_180m_tons_of_toxic_waste_dumped_into_worlds_oceans_rivers_and_lakes_ea

Questions:

1. how much nuclear and chemical waste is dumped in the oceans each year? Are there initiatives to monitor it?
2. what will the effect be for the ocean or the planet when the waste dumping continues at the current rate?

The film Third Eye Spies markets itself as 'a true story'.

Just in case that there is a grain of truth in their claims, if it could have led to advancements, for example for Cosmology, it may be considered a waste to not at least have been open for the possibility and allow investigation/exploration. As it appears, anyone can do it and one would merely need to be open for it (i.e. 'explore' it) and ask the right questions (deduced from the citation by a CIA program director in the OP).

4 administrations did believe in ESP. When it was cancelled, also the popular series X Files was cancelled. It could have been a decision based on a personal belief (e.g. atheism) or a short term profit motive.

When ESP is possible, how plausible is the idea that mind originates from the brain? Big Pharma has a multi trillion USD interest in ESP not being possible, for example.

What about the fact that a multi-million USD Government funded CIA remote viewing program has survived many subsequent administrations?

What about the existence of a professional association for remote viewing that intends to secure proper use of remote viewing?

What about the film thirdeyespies.com? (2021)

--

The above can be considered indications that ESP could be real. In that case, it may be interesting to explore potential usage for Cosmology.

If a remote viewer can view across the Earth, would the same be possible at a Galactic scale? If so: what useful information might it provide?

If ESP is suppressed while it is in fact real and usable for Cosmology, valuable time could be wasted.

New Theories / ESP for planet hunting / advancements in Cosmology

I hope that this post is appreciated on this forum. I was just banned on space.com for asking this question. Previously, a post about the big bang theory being a religion that received several serious replies was 'deleted' for questionable motives as well. As it appears, the possibility of ESP is a sensitive topic as well.

My original post and question:

According to the CIA, ESP (Extrasensory Perception) and remote viewing are real, and while the CIA has been attempting to use the potential to serve political agenda's, if ESP and remote viewing are possible, it may provide options to speed up advancements in Cosmology.

CIA program director of Stanford Research Institute:

Quote
In my experience and according to most other researchers, it appears that an experienced psychic can answer any question that has an answer. I cannot wait to see what the future holds when we fully open the doors of our perception! It is time to accept the gift of psychic abilities. The hardware is fine; it’s the software that must be upgraded—and quickly.

As it appears, it would just involve asking the right question. In the case of Cosmology, ESP may provide an unexplored opportunity for new discoveries.

Imagine having the ability to remote view a planet of an advanced civilization somewhere in the Milky Way and unlock information about technologies and potentially a location. Alternatively, imagine the ability to remote view earth in 10,000 years.

With ESP and remote viewing, time and distance appear to become non-local while conscious experience remains possible.

While some may be quick to dismiss the possibility of paranormal matters, a multi-million USD Government funded CIA remote viewing program has survived many subsequent administrations and the existence of a professional association for remote viewing that intends to secure proper use of remote viewing, provide a strong indication that ESP and remote viewing should be taken serious, and in that case, exploring its potential use for Cosmology becomes applicable.

The following documentary film (2021) provides information about the CIA program.

Anyone can do it

It is a logical idea that ESP, remote viewing or anything paranormal require something 'special', but the film Third Eye Spies showed that they recruited regular people from the military without prior experience with anything paranormal to perform professional remote viewing, and that the least experienced persons were sometimes better at the task. 'Anyone can do it', but there are people with talent.

There is even a remote viewing conference where regular people (public) can take part in remote viewing. It is showed in the film and as it appears, students and people without prior paranormal experience were able to perform 'paranormal' remote viewing.

Question: has it ever been attempted to use ESP for Cosmology? If so, are there online references?

No.

Given context, I'm pretty sure what they are talking about is how far away from the Sun life has travelled. In that case, there are probably some deep Solar System probes with a few microbes clinging to them (assuming they survived that long).

The answer to the question of the OP has been that there has been no official test with Earth life (bacteria, insects or animals) with a distance from Earth further than the Moon.

The argument that Earth itself travels through space wouldn't be relevant since the consideration as basis for the question of the OP is that Earth life may be bound to a region around the Sun.

Hi all.

To Cleanair:    Even if life originated from the sun and had something to do with neutrinos (which seems unlikely), I think the main point people are trying to make is that it doesn't seem to need a steady stream of neutrinos any longer.

Mammals evolved from the oceans but land based mammals do not need to live and breath in the water any longer (it would kill them if they tried).   There is little reason to think that neutrinos (or the lack of these) will be a problem on Mars, we don't seem to need them for anything now.

Do you believe that life started at some point in time and has been passed on like a fire?

In the case that it isn't, then Neutrinos (as in the Neutrino-biological cell theory of mind) may be an 'actual' origin of life.

Thank you for the valuable replies. This is a very nice forum because of your dedicated and insightful replies!

Conclusion: the farthest that even a 🦠 bacteria has traveled (as part of a test) is around the 🌒 Moon.

In general: why would one assume that the Sun is not the giver of life, and that life is something independent of the Solar system?

No evidence, that's why.

Is the evidence for the origin of life? If not, then one is to make an assumption.

From that perspective it is plausible (perhaps aught to be natural) to question whether it would be valid to assume that life is something independent from the Solar system.

Is there at least one clue that life is independent from the Solar system?

If not, would it not be logical that life most likely originates from the Sun when the origin would need to lay within the Solar system?
