It might take up more space on the page but 0 is numerically the same as 000 or 0.00.
Now 1/2*1/2*4=1. Now if x=1/2, y=1/2 and z = 4 then that makes sense.

It says nothing about describing space. 000 is the same as 0.
000 is not the same as 0, like you pointed out it uses more space up, it is bigger than 0.
