Title: Can I take Zinc from filling pure zinc metal
Post by: championoftruth on 16/01/2021 13:36:23
I want to take zinc supplements to keep myself safe from horrible diseases and i have bought 180 tablets of 500mg zinc citrate which states it has 30 mg of elemental zinc.

This cost 12 pounds!

You can take up to 100mg daily. This means this will only last 180/3 =60 days. If i share with family it will last only 10 days!

I don't want o spend any more money on zinc supplements. i am very tight fisted.

I want to know instead of wasting money on zinc citrate if I can buy pure zinc and then use a abrasive file on the pure zinc to make small particles of zinc of mass 30 mg to 100 mg which i would then swallow with water or a smoothie?

This will save me money and a single sheet of 200 grams will last much longer.

Did you consider eating food?
Food contains zinc.

It would make more sense to dissolve the zinc- for example in citric acid- than to eat the metal. Most of the metal would probably dissolve in the stomach, but that's a bit hit+ miss- and the local high concentrations are likely to cause irritation.
I still wouldn't bother.

You should also read this sort of thing
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zinc_toxicity

Also
You can take up to 100mg daily
And (unless you happen to be deficient) you will piss about 90 mg of it straight out again.

Zinc has been used therapeutically at a dose of 150 mg/day for months and in some cases for years, and in one case at a dose of up to 2000 mg/day zinc for months.[7][8][9][10][11] A decrease in copper levels and hematological changes have been reported; however, those changes were completely reversed with the cessation of zinc intake.[9]

However, zinc has been used as zinc gluconate and zinc acetate lozenges for treating the common cold[12] and therefore the safety of usage at about 100 mg/day level is a relevant question. Thus, given that doses of over 150 mg/day for months to years has caused no permanent harm in many cases, a one-week usage of about 100 mg/day of zinc in the form of lozenges would not be expected to cause serious or irreversible adverse health issues in most individuals.

Unlike iron, the elimination of zinc is concentration-dependent.[13]

The toxicity aspect is exaggerated.

Its hard to eat food to get more zinc as that would mean i would pile on the pounds.

i am 62 kilos at the moment. i managed to get it down to 59 kilos buts its a huge struggle to keep at 59 kilos with a waistline of 32inches.

when you eat zinc surely it would react with hydrochloric acid to make zinc chloride.

Also i had some zinc chloride AA batteries and i have removed the outer zinc layer
with a sharp knife and cleaned it.

This means i save money by not having to buy zinc metal.

Zinc has been used therapeutically
Yes, in the treatment of a deficiency; you nee to use a lot to top up the stuff that's missing.
.
This means i save money by not having to buy zinc metal.
Well... It's not what I would do.

You also seem to be forgetting the flip side of this.
You can eat quite a lot of zinc without it doing any harm.
But is it doing any good?
when you eat zinc surely it would react with hydrochloric acid to make zinc chloride.
Probably, but the relatively high concentration of zinc chloride may cause local irritation.

well if zinc 99% pure THEN 1% manganese will be only 1mg from 100mg intake.

i could also sue the battery makers for not telling me the impurity level.

i am not going to eat manganese. i cleaned the zinc plate.

however the question has not really been answered of zinc particles being made from zinc plate being edible

i don't want to spend money on buying citric acid and then trying to figure what volume of acid to use.

All mushrooms are edible- once.

It's essentially impossible to answer the question.
These days they no longer deliberately add mercury to zinc batteries, so that's good.
But how would you know if they don't bother to strip out the cadmium present in the ore?

You are essentially planning to gamble your health, and that of your family for, quite possibly, nothing.
Do you have any reason to spose that your diet is zinc deficient?

i don't want to spend money
Then don't.

i cleaned the zinc plate.
And if you send it to a laboratory (with a large cheque) they will tell you how much manganese there is in it.

Best thing to do is to move to a civilised country where (a) there is enough zinc in a normal diet and (b) medication is free if you are seriously deficient. Or vote Democrat and hope for a return to sanity.

I was pondering recently if we couldn't make Zinc cups and plates there would be a small amount of zinc absorbed each time you used them.

Could also use zinc for tinned foods. They stopped using lead for tinned cans due to lead poisoning.

Needs some research, but there might he the possibility, knives and forks from zinc, probably need to be as an alloy tho.

Zinc and most of its alloys are too weak and/ or too susceptible to corrosion.
You could use brass.
That would almost certainly add too much copper- which tastes filthy.

So, it seems you have suggested a non-solution to a non- problem.

There's no real evidence here  of zinc deficiency.

Due to intensive farming most soils are depleted and zinc or any other deficiency manifests itself in assorted illnesses which are hard to link to any deficiency.

If a person become ill the 'doctor' usually give them painkillers, antibiotics, anti inflammatory, statins , steroids, etc and sends them on their way to do the merry go round of repeated doctors visits eventually leading to a blood test which may or may not identify a deficiency.

By dragging this out over many months the patients condition usually goes down hill leading to more medications with their numerous side effects...

That would reduce plant growth. It wouldn't be long before the farmers realised this.

But I have a suggestion for you, build a blood/ urine  testing lab where you measure zinc- for a small fee say 20.
If you can find enough people willing to pay*, you will make a fortune.
Who knows; you might even identify some cases of zinc deficiency among pregnant vegans with a poor understanding of diet.

* it shouldn't be hard, you are just stealing the customers from the zinc supplement manufacturers.

... i am very tight fisted ...

Then the ideal solution is "everlasting pills" ... https://wikipedia.org/wiki/Antimony_pill

i decide zinc pills are the better option as my health is too important to risk but if i get covid i willl swallow a 100mg i of zinc fillings daily.

My hydrocloric acid in my stomach will turn it into zinc choloride

Why zinc?
Holy water has a long established record.

Hi,

I wouldn't recommend doing that. When taking supplements, always try to get high quality stuff with no weird ingredients. I also think, that 60 days is enough to fill up your zinc tanks in your body. It's not meant to take stuff like this forever. You don't want to be to aggressive or harm your body, right?

Investing in your body's healt is really great and helps you to feel better. So you shouldn't be stingy. Save money for you health by avoiding to buy stuff you don't need like a new phone or tv.

Before taking ANY (!) supplements you should make sure that you actually have a lack of zinc in your body. Either you let your doctor do a blood test or you can buy a testkit yourself.

Never just stuff your body with supplements!
