Title: Question about someone who has had a fracture in tibia/ fibula (one) leg?
Post by: miscel2007 on 07/05/2007 12:27:11
I want to ask this.......

If a 23 years old person has a fracture in the right leg (broken tibia/ fibula), and he gets a cast on (which isn't healing properly).......

...... does anyone know how long will the person not be able to change his clothes (trousers, underwear, etc.).....

..... and how long will he need to use bedpan for urinating, defecating, etc.?

...... How long will he be completely immobile? meaning can't hop from one bed to another?

Do you mean even with the cast on? Then i'd get to the doctor to get it fixed.

And welcome to the site miscel

Do you have the older plaster cast? My orthopedic surgeon uses thin fiberglass cast if he puts a permanent cast on. He prefers to use a Velcro closing cast for most things so that the bone stays immobile for 99.9% of the time but the cast can be removed for washing and the other necessary functions. And if you are using a bedpan for bodily functions, they must have put one heck of a cast on - the lower legs is usually the only part immobilized for a simple fracture. Did you have surgery to put everything back in place? If so, that could take a while. I seem to remember that it is usual for a cast to be on 4 to 6 weeks for most people to heal.

Now, what about bed-hopping. Want to invite guests? [;D]

Let me also welcome you to our little forum. We are all crazy to some small degree so it helps if you are as well !!!

my cousin broke her right ankle and her leg in three places... and she was still allowed to get up to go to the bathroom. she was only allowed up for half an hour a day for a week, but that was mainly because of her head injuries. after about a week she could go anywhere her crutches would take her
