Title: Was an ancient man found preserved in tar pit?

G'day, I heard that decades ago a man was found preserved in an ancient tar pit. Where can I find out more about him?

There was actually one human found in the La Brea tar pits in California.

Which happens to be a WOMAN!!!

Perhaps you are referring to Piltdown Man (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Piltdown_Man).

In 1951, there was a man who chased a dog into the tar pits.
Narrowly escaping being preserved for posterity himself!!!
