Not to mention the fires started by alternative cooking methods (processed food is even worse when eaten raw). An article I once read stated that the biggest kept secret in Saudia Arabia at the time was the population. Seems the practice of polygamy was resulting in a non-increasing population. Probably Reader's Digest propaganda, but still, many (okay, men) would see this as a viable way to cut down the populace to manageable numbers. Not specifically forbidden by the Bible, and allowed by that other book, so would seem to be more palatable to the religious cohort (the main opposition) than most other methods.

The closest you could come would be if the universe instantaneously collapsed into its own immoveable object (the singularity) and the gravity of the singularity had to combat the momentum of the collapsing universe. The result would be the big bang. Presumably this would happen when time stopped and space disappeared.

The recording industries bottom-line position is that possession of any copyright work that has not been advertised is piracy (how did you know of its existence without being aided by piracy, if it wasn't advertised?) This is how they have historically controlled the sale of recorded works so that only the lowest quality product at the highest price is made available to the consumer.

I think McLuhan pointed out that papers concentrate on bad news because the eye will then be drawn for relief to good news - Sonys - 20% off - fits the bill nicely. This would explain why there are few advertisements in the sports pages - everyone loves a winner, no need to seek relief in the ads.

There are large accelerations (expansions) of space occurring in the universe without any corresponding increase or decrease in matter, so there doesn't seem to be a connection.

Everyone should have one. It's the style nowdays. Guilt used to be a useful emotion telling us when we were doing something wrong, so we could correct our mistakes. Now religious and government authorities exploit this emotion to control us by claiming we are guilty of being politically or religiously incorrect, offending our god or government. Tens of thousands of laws later, the usefulness of this emotion to people has been degraded to the point that guilt in general is rejected. So we identify with serial killers, pimps, zombies and anti-materialism. Or we just spam TNS. They're providing a therapeutic service!
