Why do people get deja-vu ?

Déjà vue, French for 'I've  seen this before' - even if you haven't.

Sometimes peoples' memories (short -> longterm) screw up, and memory traces are stored without any corresponding true occurrence.

Or, something is so similar to a certain memory you could have sworn it was the real thing. Like, you walk down this street in India, take a turn, and you suddenly think "I've seen this square before", but it's just a memory of such a square from your youth, overlayed over this one.

You cannot have seen it before, simply because it's your first time in India, for example. It's maybe how the idea of reincarnation came about, come to think of it.

I had a bike accident about 4 years ago, which involved quite a good concussion, and being in a state of not being able to remember anything for more than about 15mins over a period of about 3-4 hours. Since then if I am at a party I will meet someone for the first time, and then later in the evening I am sure that I have met them ages ago... This could just be living in Cambridge and I had actually met them ages ago, but I think it is a real effect, and a fairly specific form of deja vu.

 I also had some interesting visusual screw ups, whereby I couldn't ignore things that were moving. Normally if a ball flys towards you or you see a moving car, your attention moves to it, however you ignore things moving due to parallax when you walk. For about two weeks I couldn't ignore the things moving due to parallax, which made walking anywhere extreemly tiring, and also meant that I couldn't track an object moving behind a fence, as my attention kept jumping to the fence that was moving through my visual field and back again. This has largely cleared up now thankfully.

Deja vu, that is a wierd one.....i get the scientific way of thinking, its just some screwed up chemicals in your brain that disorganise memories, making something that is happening now seem like a memory, but what if the deja vu is so defined, that you can actually predict what someone is about to say, and say it word for word with them?

I have had this a few times, sometimes i can remember a dream i had of the exact moment i am in now, and know what is going to happen next. The only problem that stops me from believing that I have some 6th sense is that i don't know the dreams have relevence at the time, so therefore i have no proof at all. I did try to keep a dream book for a while, but writing about your dreams stops them from being as spontanious I found.

Are there any scientific studies of deja vu or dream predictions? I do lack the disaplin to do a proper study on myself :-/

I think that is a reconnection on some parts of the brain or some kind of pause, but a very very little one but interpreted by the brain as a recall of what you're seeing. It's so quick that when you are seeing something you know remember it, or that's what your brain is interpreting.

Or simply I have to stop smoking that thing that grows in my house..hahaha.....just kidding

I think Deja vu, declares the existence of "6th sence" in man. According to Indian philosophical scince, human mind can sometimes illuminate its "6th sense" and forecast the things in future. One who concentrate his mind through transcedental meditation and inturn igniting his "kundalilni", have the power to see the future World (extended version of the Deja vu). im always remembering things before they happen ie having a dream about tripping over a cat three days before triping over a cat am i making these thing happen because i dreamt them or do i dream about so many things that when something happens i remember the dream that was closet to the event?
