The etiology of gout involves hyperuricemia - which is elevated baseline uric acid concentrations i.e. plasma uric acid levels greater than 6.8 mg/dL.

In relation to purine-induced elevations in uric acid [if you're not taking the pharmaceutical approach e.g. colchicine/allopurinol, ect.] meats & seafoods are some primary sources of purines, and decreased dietary purine intake should aleviate the severity of gout at least to some degree. Additionally, avoid excessive alcohol intake, and ketogenic dieting.

Also, avoid supplemental creatine as it upregulates creatinine synthesis & excretion, and individuals with gout already have significantly elevated baseline creatinine concentrations.

Does anyone know anything about a link between allopurinol and polyarteritis nodosa? I recall seeing something about 25 years ago, but I can't find anything much these days, so I wonder if it has been discounted.
