Most are familiar with the shooting from moving vehicle problem.  Requiring a leading or lagging aiming strategy.

What if the bullet did not need to be accelerated?  What if the bullet was already at muzzle velocity........and pointed in the right direction?  And all we had to do, is let it go in that direction.

Imagine a spinning hub on top the truck.  With 360 thin wire spokes.  And a ball of a bullet at the ends of the spokes.

Spin it up to muzzle velocity.  Strobe the spin.  We now have a 360 degree aiming gun.

As the pickup moves down the road......will I need to lead or lag a target?

For us(or US) hicks, this is high school physics.  This knowledge will be required for Zombie times.

I have never played with video games, and don't know if it is accounted for in the games.....for one to see.

Muzzle velocity is still finite, so leading the target would still be required.

You're describing a 2D grenade.  No need to aim that, unless you're shooting at a target crossing the plane of fire, in which case you still need to lead the target.

The situation is no different than a stationary pickup truck shooting at a moving target instead of v-v.
Note that is has to be a pickup truck.  One is not allowed to fire a gun from a Honda Civic as it lacks the required redneckness.

Does the velocity of the truck, get impressed on the bullet?

If the velocity of the truck has no effect, then the muzzle velocity doesn't matter.....because no other cross velocity is acting with it.

With the truck moving, hit target five times with a gun......each hit will have a different velocity.

Now go back and stop the truck at those five positions.......hit target with gun......all 5 hits will have same velocity.

PS.....take one wire spoke....rotate at muzzle speed....strobe......adjust strobe phase for target alignment with spoke......time release with strobe.  Fire at will.

Edit:  Can I completely nullify and then adjust the proportion of truck velocity, with the axis of the rotation.....relative to truck velocity?

No matter how the spin is orientated to the moving truck, the truck's velocity can only be added during half of the spin.......because the truck's velocity is being subtracted from the other half of the spin.  No net truck velocity on ball.

If someone wants to check this experimentally, use a minimum of two spokes or multiples of two spokes, and release both "diameter" balls at same time for correct dynamic.  You can bank the 2nd ball.

On the 360 setup, we only release the ball on the spoke that points to the target.  We can adjust strobe phase to point any radius to the target.  We then time the release to the strobe.

As said though......we need to release the diameter ball also at the same time to keep the dynamic in balance.

The purpose of the spin dynamic is as a gun, not a grenade, shotgun, or machine gun.

The bullet has no recollection of how it came to leave the gun.
It could have been pushed most of the way by a geriatric earth worm, but then launched by "magic".

If, from the point of view of the bullet, the velocity is high enough, and the direction is towards the target then it will hit.

The problem is that you are looking at it from the driver's perspective.
It's a reasonably simple shift of coordinates.

Or take the easy solution; drive the truck towards the target :-)

We know the results with a handgun or a rifle. The moving results vs static results.

And this leads us to the leading and lagging strategy.

And from this success, we deduce(confirm) that that truck's velocity is added to the bullet's velocity.

My rotating contraption is to see if that added truck velocity can be avoided.  But there are several dynamics occurring.

If my contraption does remove(or drastically reduce) the truck's velocity, there could be two reasons.  One would be that the rotation cancels it.    The other reason is time of release.  An emission time.

With a gun, the bullet is under truck acceleration.   AND upon firing, there is a duration of bullet acceleration.  At what time is the truck velocity added to the bullet?  Is it before firing or only during bullet barrel time?  A reasonable question to ask is, is acceleration require to add the velocities?

Releasing from the spoke wire, should be quicker than barrel acceleration.  A lack of acceleration time with the spin.

I have two questions of my contraption, one......do I need to lead or lag my aim when moving?
And two, will my bullet target velocities remain constant while moving?


There are three possible results.  one....no difference from gun.   two....it does all that I predict.  and three, it drastically reduces the truck's velocity, but does not eliminate it.

If there is success......then we need to determine whether it's the spin or quick release that is responsible for that reduction.

And if this proves true, or part true, it might lead to the concept that there is a physical reason why some emitters, always have a constant velocity, whether they are moving or not.
