What happens when a person dies?

Mantombi asks

"What happens when a person dies? Does the soul exists? if yes where does it go after death?"

What do you think?

Life is a battle between the assembly of cells and resident bacteria we call "us" and the millions of other predators  that call us "food". Eventually, the others win, sometimes because we are exhausted beyond our capacity to fight and repair, and increasingly often, because our internal systems lose the plot and start fighting each other.

Perhaps it's time for a new postgraduate course: not "the history of medicine" but "history and medicine", where the growth and collapse of empires is compared with the life of individual animals.

If the soul is what others perceive as our motivation, then it can certainly persist in influencing theirs. Beyond that, the evidence is sketchy but occasional anecdotes are spectacular. Here's one:

A few months after my wife died, I was having a miserable Saturday alone. Standing in the kitchen, I heard her voice (unmistakeable after 30 years) say "Go to Sainsburys and buy some cat food. You will  meet Ruth and she will cheer you up." So I went to the shop, despite having no other reason to do so. In the cat food aisle, I met Ruth, who had been a near-neighbour until a year previously. She said "I don't know why I'm here. I don't live here any more, I don't need anything, and I haven't even got a cat. But I'm glad I  met you because a group of the girls are going to a dance tonight and we have a spare ticket." So I escorted five delightful women to a great night out.

How many absurd coincidences turn an anecdote into evidence?

Build a ty house out of lego bricks  then take it apart again.
Where did the "house" go?
It doesn't make sense to talk of a soul any more than it makes sense to talk of the "not a house any more".
