well do they? Can they all produce silk?
-
The simple answer is they do not all make webs, but don't ask me right now to real off which one's don't make webs (I don't think black widows or tarantulas do - but I have not time to check if I am correct in that).
I am not sure if spiders have other use for silk besides web making - so maybe there are spiders who don't make webs but still make silk.
-
I know tarantulas use their silk as an aid to walking. There was an experiment where a tarantula was placed on a length of glass, at an angle, a slope.
The tarantula was observed putting a small quantity of silk down, for extra grip.

black widows do make webs. they are usually quite large. then again, so is the spider...
