Depends on what it was supposed to do.If the answer to that is nothing then it probably worked.

Depends again.If it was to make those who took part feel good about them self.Then probably yes.

That living in the dark is not much fun?.

The point of Earth hour is to raise awareness... it probably did some of that.

Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.
In 2009, Earth Hour is being taken to the next level, with the goal of 1 billion people switching off their lights as part of a global vote. Unlike any election in history, it is not about what country you’re from, but instead, what planet you’re from. VOTE EARTH is a global call to action for every individual, every business, and every community. A call to stand up and take control over the future of our planet. Well no-one told me about Earth hour.

But now you are aware of it.. so it's still achieving it's purpose..
because, let's face it, the earth will be more saved if people didn't drive around the streets looking to see how many people turned off their lights, fly in planes quite so much or fill in earth hour with other activities that will perhaps be more prominent in nine months time.

I must admit, I was wondering how people would fill their time if they couldn't see anything and the "9 months later" activities did spring to mind. But what would they do for the other 59 minutes? [;D]

Hubby insisted that our family participate. We didn't go 100%, but I think overall we did pretty well. We turned out all of the lights and appliances, but kept 1 tv running. We watched movies in the dark for a few hours. It was nice. [:)]

Sydney is the most populous city in Australia, with a metropolitan population estimated at 3.9 million residents, based on census data from 2004.
3.9 million people, 2.2 million homes & businesses switched off their lights? 1.78 people per house/business? That doesn't sound quite right to me.
