So I have watched a couple of videos on 'the heat death of the universe' and it is all very formulaish so I got rather lost (I'm better with biology than maths  ).  The basic idea that I got was that in 10^100 years all life in the universe is utterly screwed because there will be no usable energy left in the universe... but why?
Can anyone explain this 'heat death' in plain English for me please?

ok this may seem odd but if you are a doctor (of any sort) post to say so.

The reasson being i think there may be a lot.  Some of the more detailed answers sound like they may be from drs (or folk in uni at least).

hi there!

Ehm, well i'm trying to do a 5000 word report on sewage treatment and the public health benefit... i know.

Problem being, i can't seem to find any desent info on sewage treatment like:

• bacteria used
• old treatment methods
• technology involved

etc.

I was wondering if anybody would happen to know any good sorces of information on the subject? or if you know anything useful yourself that would be great too.

When you eat an ice cream or something really cold, you can obviously get brainfreeze. i was hoping that someone might know why we get brainfreeze when the cold food/drink doesn't go anywhere near the brain?

Why is it that when you fog up a window and write something with your finger, then let it defog, then fog it up again, what you wrote will still be there? Is it something to do with the oil on our fingers? Thanks.

Aphophis or somebody predicted hitler, electricity, 9/11, and lots of orher stuff. he also seen the end of the earth but did not say the date as he thaught it would scare people (no s......). He did say though that the person responsible for ending the world would be a "man in a blue suite near the turn of a centuary" (he didnt say which centuary).
So, with all of this talk of iraq going to nuke isreal or something on the news actually got me quite woried as the guy was wearing a blue suite. I ussually dont belive in all of that prediction stuff but this aphophis got everything else wright.
Anyone else think thats spooky or should i go to a mental hospital!

I dont think this is strictly a science question but its kind of physicsy. Anyway, why is pie (as in 3.141592653...) infinite, and how did they get pie to be that number? finally, how many digits do they know pi up to? thanks.

i went for an op a couple of weeks ago, and when they were putting me to sleep, the heart monitor started beeping and it said extreme tachy. what does that mean. i know it has something to do with my heart because they kept me in over night to monitor it, but they never told me exactly what was wrong.

I have just been thinking about how many pets i have. i have two dogs, a cat, a tarantula, a budgie and a snake. so am i mad... or really mad.
Don't get me wrong, i wouldn't get rid of any of them, i love them all. well... apart from the tarantula, it's not loveable, more... whats a good word... strange.

p.s. do you have any pets. if not, would you ever get any.

I know that spider silk only turns to silk when it hits air, and that it is liquid inside the spider.
what i don't get is how a spider can produce so much silk in a day. does it actualy have a limit as to how much silk that it can produce in a day; Pluss where does it get the energy to produce this vast amount of silk. surely it can't get a huge amount of energy from it's food

When a human has a thought they think it in their launguage eg. if an english person wanted to go to the shops they may think to themselves "i have to go to the shops".
Now think about this. Animals don't have advanced languages, so what do they actually think to themselves; i really doubt it's woof woof!

does anyone know why the left side of the brain controls the right side of the body and vice-versa. It just seems weird. mind you, the brain is quite complocated isnt it.
