How small a hole will mosquitoes fly through to reach water?

Peter of PNG asked the Naked Scientists:
Hi,I was wondering, how small of a hole will mosquitoes fly/go through in order to reach water?
For example, would they lay their eggs inside a coke bottle? What about a soda can? What about the little hole in a manhole cover that leads to the sewer?

The hole doesn't actually have to be "fly-through-able"; mosquitoes will fold their wings and walk through a gap if necessary. So the answer to your question is "about the same dimensions as the insects themselves".
