Question of the Week / QotW - 25.02.07 - Are bone conduction headphones safer?

Bill writes in,
I listen to bone conduction earphones without ear plugs in preference to conventional headphones or ear buds. At times, I need to raise the volume to maximum and receive warnings via my smartphone. Neither environmental noise or speaker volume (mainly spoken voice as I prefer to listen to podcasts) seem excessive nor cause discomfort. My question is: Do bone induction headphones without ear plugs pose the same risk to hearing loss as conventional headphones and ear buds?
