Title: Why Does Smoking A Cigarette Invite A Visit To The Loo ?
Post by: neilep on 19/07/2007 11:50:49
I am sorry...I do not mean to maintain a ' scat-theme ' but this is a genuine question I have reserved to ask whilst I was away.

I did a bad thing !..I had a cigarette !..it was not nice !...but why did it make me want to go to the loo (for No 2's)..

You'll be pleased to know my hard core addiction of having two cigarettes is over !..that was a short habit !!

The second ciggy (the next day) had the same result !!

Why does it do this ?

Perhaps your stomach has been sensitized after being  Nicotene free! Maybe having the two again just simply upset the clean system and irritated it! Perhaps it is all in your head..LOL or in your intestines..LOL Your body is talking to you and you should listen!

Cannot say that I had heard this reaction before, but I might think it was somehow related to the reported tendency of cigarette smoking in maintaining low weight, and possibly curtailing hunger.  Maybe one effect of smoking is to that your intestines cannot hold food (I don't know if nicotine is involved in a fight or flight reaction - i.e. when an animal might defecate in response to fear).

I just read a few articles and it says that cigarettes can upset ones stomach because it can cause the stomach to produce too much stomach acid! Producing diarrhea etc.

Because cigarettes have a mild diuretic effect. This is why some smokers have their first cigarette of the day whilst on the loo. Honest, it's true.
