Title: Is swallowing chewing gum bad for you?

Is swallowing chewing gum bad for you ?
Does it get digested ?...if not ..why not ?

A single chewing gum is not bad, but many at the same time it is: it's problematic for intestine to eliminate it, it probably couldn't move it easily.
It's not digested (completely) because we don't have enzymes able to dissolve the gum part of it.

I suspected it was not digested but then I thought that stomach acid is so strong that it would break anything down .

if anyone had ever died because the chewing gum they swallowed had blocked their gut and caused untold internal damage then it would have to carry a health warning in just about every country of the world.

All this nonsense about 7 years to digest is all cobblers, the body will get rid of it within at most 48 hours (about 7 or 8 hours if you have a curry the same night!).

People have been swallowing gum since it was invented and some swallow things a lot worse than gum, if you swallow a foreign object such as a diamond then old wives tales would surmise that as it took millions of years to become a diamond the best you could hope to pass is a lump of coal in about 3 million years, so worry about it, I think not....

You are probably right Jaydon Merrill, I remember being told as a kid 'it will get stuck on your appendix'. Nonsense.

But I still don't swallow it and wont be buying anything off your spammy link!

My parents said I could die if I swallowed chewing gum, so I stopped using it - result (for them).
