I have recently been fitted with a pacemaker will that prevent me from having a MRI scan ?

Depends on the type. You need to contact the manufacturer: some are rated "MRI compatible" and some "MRI conditional" with specific instructions in each case as to the range of MRI examinations that can be employed. You should have an instruction or caution manual, and a full entry in your medical records.
