I first came across this theory about a year ago. It is pure conjecture without a shred of scientific evidence to support it. However, it's quite intriguing & I wish I could understand it better []

Hameroff has made claims that the Pre-Cambrian explosion of unicellular organisms containing microtubules could have been caused by a sort of consciousness (e.g. attraction to light, movement from predators...). Believe it or not, they have been supported by findings that quantum oscillation (whatever that means) occurs during photosynthesis in bacteriochlorophyll. The photons can 'wait' and choose the most efficient path by apparently being in superposition.
Doc, I presume, and you know better than I, that the classical model of photosynthesis with electrons pinging from one photocentre to another from high to low energy generating free energy as they merrily fall to lower potential energy levels needs revision. I think this means that our thoughts about consciousness being a quantum event can be now entertained as possible, also mediated by photons and using water and proteins as waveguides and nodes so that they fine tune the event where different superposed molecules in the microtubules suddenly collapse to a certain state corresponding to a 'moment' of conscious activity. This may be the Orch(estrated) part of the Orch OR model. But then, I have to read this stuff agaun...I am still unsure about what is meant by space-time geometries. Can you help me on this Doc?
I think Hameroff defines it as thoughts and feelings and the sense of awareness of 'self'. Would you see it that way as well?
