Just Chat! / Depilatory creme
« on: 05/03/2021 07:45:05 »
Hey guys,

so I found an article about depilatory creme <commercial link removed> (sorry, the article is in German but you can easily translate it into Englisch with Google Translate for example if you want). So My question is: How does such a product even work? My girlfriend used such a creme long time before and she was unhappy with the result and said it didn’t worked the way it should have. I mean, which ingredients are even responsible for this process of removing hairs?

So sorry, this is a serious question. Cheers

Technology / Re: Could 5G internet harm humans or nature?
« on: 15/02/2021 23:34:20 »
regarding 5G one can often read that if you actively use a service, you are exposed to more radiation which is somehow true because higher existing frequencies compared to LTE technology results in the range being reduced which will lead to more transmission masts.

However, if you consider aspects such as the fact that with increasing frequency the radiation penetrates less deeply into our skin and the fact that the extent of damage to health has not yet been proven, I am initially open with regard to the whole topic.

Complementary Medicine / Re: Smoothies against headache
« on: 15/02/2021 23:18:01 »
As our diet in general has a huge impact on how we feel, it is plausible that just as some foods can simply make you feel unwell, others can help us feel better. I know, for example, that in addition to drinking enough water, magnesium can play a role in alleviating migraine. Bananas and avocados, in particular, contain a lot of magnesium. If you prepare a smoothie with these, this can lead to the relief of headache/migraine

Physiology & Medicine / Re: Do we age less when we sleep?
« on: 15/02/2021 21:36:53 »
Sleep is very important for the body and if you sleep little, this is often noticeable quickly, be it through lack of concentration, distraction, etc.It is also known that sleep affects not only psychological but also many physical activities. Many cells are renewed while we sleep.

Therefore, I would not necessarily claim that one can directly avoid any wrinkles in the aging process by sleeping a lot, as this can also be genetic, but sleep is definitely good and necessary to support psychological as well as physical functions

Physiology & Medicine / Re: What causes nosebleeds?
« on: 15/02/2021 13:33:41 »
theoretically it could go in both directions.

People who lose a lot of blood also lose iron as a result, so that blood loss (here: nosebleeds) could be a reason for iron deficiency

on the other hand, iron deficiency can lead to low blood platelets, which in turn causes nosebleeds

Physiology & Medicine / Re: If coffee better than tea?
« on: 15/02/2021 13:10:56 »
As already mentioned in some of the answers, I also think that the amount always counts. Too much tea is probably as bad as too much coffee. I think the difference is then made by the fact that there are so many different types of tea, so you simply have more choice and diversity when it comes to tea. Therefore, one would probably have to look at the individual types of tea and their recommended amount for tea

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Re: Do any of the solar system satellites have satellites themselves?
« on: 14/02/2021 22:23:44 »
I guess a basic example would be that the earth rotates around the sun and the moon around the earth

Question of the Week / Re: QotW 20.12.21 - Can you get DNA from ashes?
« on: 14/02/2021 22:15:09 »
As already mentioned, I also believe that DNA should be difficult to find after the cremation. As the temperatures reached inside the cremation are very high and in combination with the pulverization it may be very hard to extract DNA
