Title: Can I actually be itching myself to death?
Post by: Karen W. on 24/08/2008 07:11:51
I have been itching for months! My skin itches all the time lately.. everywhere and It feels so good to scratch.. I have no rashes.. and aside from the little mozzie's that keep biting me.. I am just generally itchy.. My water intake is at a metered rate .. I thought it might just be dry skin, but NO Its more then that.. its like driving me crazy.. my boobs itch my arms my shoulder my bottom my back my legs.. ooooh around my knee caps behind my knees my thighs my shins my ankles.. LOL I don't have athletes foot either! Have no bugs and also had my skin scrapped and came up clean.. LOL Nothing.. no hives etc.. just insatiable itching that when scratched feels sooooooooooo   goooooooooood.. dare I say better then sex!!

I am telling you It is horrible till I scratch it.. I look all red from scratching and I must be purring too as I scratch...... OH man.. what else can cause this crazy itching! I am rubbing trees door frames and even using a back scratcher and a hair brush... The doctor just checked my meds no obvious reaction.. no changes that we notice...

I will purr really good for a nice back Body scratching! Help!!!!

Has anyone else ever had this problem..? I have had it since I was small.. but the last few months its been very intense!

I have had such trouble with the water potassium thing that my kidneys are up and down right now down,, but she checked my water said it was ok, but to increase it about a pint a day!

Am I doing something that can cause this.. or perhaps something in the air... etc...?

Itching = Pruritus...

Quote
Elevated levels of divalent ions, such as calcium, magnesium, and phosphate, are thought to play a role. Marked improvement of pruritus resulting from low dialysate calcium and magnesium concentrations has been reported. Increased amounts of these ions are also seen in the skin of pruritic patients.

Karen sometimes the itches can be caused by nerve-endings trying
to "knit" together again (healing) and that's what the itchy feelings might be due too.

Is there anything that you use like cream to stop this itch perhaps with steroids or not?

yes! Stress uses the sympathetic nervous system, which prepares the body for action.
The main sympathetic neurotransmitter, noradrenaline, is released at the nerve endings.

Hi Rosalind.. In answer , Nope no creams... only thing I use are my fingernails and one of those lovely Hand back scratchers.. sometimes a paint brush handle  a tree to rub against or other stationary object of scratching and rubbing joy!

Thanks I had never thought of healing but I have no open lesions except for a few mosquito bites... and the itch is all over not just at bites.
