Our life experiences are similar to a roadmap. And if things have become a bit overwhelming, you may return to a simpler time. If you can remember how you got here, you might find your way back.............Ethos

Arguing is a waste of precious time and when you get to be my age, time becomes ever more precious.......................Ethos

Occasionally, a few people choose to remain unteachable when the truth requires them to simply change. The status quo resists change........Ethos
"The more things change, the more they remain the same."

Time has a way of teaching us new things and hopefully, it gives us good reason to improve the accuracy of our grasp on reality. If these changes don't take place in our understanding of things, it can be reasoned that or lives have been wasted. Don't be afraid to change your mind when evidence suggests such, your ego will recover in due time.

Or as Eddington put it: "The student of quantum physics must become accustomed to having his common sense violated six times before breakfast."

In the short story by Tolstoy, 'The Death of Ivan Ilyich', Tolstoy suggests that men only learn when they endure suffering.
If we concede to this notion, we are then faced with the question:
How sincere are we regarding the truth and the effort required to experience it?

No it isn't.
You seem to be having a nice time with your one-line philosophies Ethos.

What do you get the person who has everything?
A: Something to put it in.

You seem to be having a nice time with your one-line philosophies Ethos.
Quite a fantastic time I must say!
BTW,.... as to my last one-liner........as you have so eloquently put it.
If we never recognize our errors, we have no hope of ever learning anything new. Maybe you didn't quite get the message I was trying to send. It may also be true that I was in error to word it the way I did. I shall try to learn from that mistake.
In any case, I appreciate the .......INTEREST.......???? you've shown in these one-liners.

There's an old saying: "Time waits on no one."
When considering the passage of time, young people view things a bit different than us old folks.
When I remember my youth, it seemed that; "time was taking it's time."
Now, in my later years; "time is becoming very impatient."
-
That seems pretty accurate in my life also....

Communism marginalizes trust in the individual and faith in a God.
If one can't put trust in God or individual rights, the only thing left to trust in is government.
Problem with that reasoning is; Government is run by individuals and many times, by despots.
Who do you trust?

Someone once asked me to define love. Being caught ill prepared to offer an immediate answer, I was forced to delay my response until after thinking about the importance of the question itself.
It occurred to me that people find it much easier to be indifferent to others than to love them. The reason for this apathy is; Love requires effort and a responsibility to attend to the welfare of others. A love deficit is evidence of laziness.
Love is required for civilization to exist, without it, the common good will crumble.
Whether love expressed between family members or bonded groups of individuals, love is the essential trait within our genes that protects and defends our common desire to survive and live. This love not only extends to our human kind but also to other forms of life within our environment and to our environment as well.
So my answer is this: "Love is the psychological mechanism that supports, defends, and sustains civilized social existence."

You would do well to edit some of your views jccc. It's called "growth", something you should look into. Changing ones position to accommodate reality is a wise and prudent move to make when faced with a freshly learned truth.

total agree. was kidding you dear old friend!
i predict we have a long way to learn, pretty long.

Beware the rise of chaos when the pursuit of technology becomes more desirable than the application of wisdom.
-
The pursuit of knowledge depends largely upon the individuals ability to sort out the information received, whether by the written word, or word of mouth, or through personal experiment. Success in this regard depends upon the honest exercise of this principle.
Beware of the less scrupulous, those who scheme by first asking a question to draw the unsuspecting into a trap prepared only to support their personal agendas.
Such individuals are totally dishonest and not only diminish the possible gains others might enjoy by the open exchange of ideas, but by means of the same process, destroy any chance they may have to grow themselves.
Those who find occasion to read this might ask themselves, was this directed at me?
My answer: "If the shoe fits, wear it"

Live and learn or live and be forced into acceptance of something because the education system says so?
You wear your shoes well of the forced education you received.
''Beware of the less scrupulous, those who scheme by first asking a question to draw the unsuspecting into a trap prepared only to support their personal agendas. ''
Beware of the clever individual who leads you to the answer you deny by asking a question of the highest truths that allows you to see for yourself past your own shadow.
What you learn does not make you a God or religious, so why try to force your belief system on others who will not and can not accept a belief system of falsity.
Others who know your belief system, try to talk to you but like a stuck Joseph witness at your door, stubborn themselves in the ability to listen to other point of views and answer questions they are asked.
Avoiding a question is the guilt of they knowing they have to answer the truthful answer.
So why pass your falsities now in this post, making out like you are the god and foremost expert on this forum. Seeing all and knowing all, you can't be wrong ever.
Normal people, like myself, are stuck between a rock and a hard place, we have religion one side, science the other side, and we have both of them preaching to us from either side, telling us how it is.
Not asking or discussing, telling, who made either of your cults , ''God''?
Us normal people have had enough of the telling, try listening and stop being so arrogant.

You know at times if you just answered yes because it is what you see , the discussion would be much easier.
It should of gone like this in the other thread -
the box - ''hey Ethos, how are you today?''
Ethos - '' so ,so mate, had a long day''
The box - '' ahah I know those sort of days mate. listen Ethos, today I thought about something, I thought to myself, I ''see'' light passing through air is clear like the air''
Ethos - '' yea me to , what about it''
box- ''well mate i thought we see things in their past because the time it takes a Photon to travel''
Ethos - ''arghh, hmmm, yeah mate I see your point, with it being ''clear light'' we don't really observe it like we observe a scattering of smarties''
box- ''yeah mate a bit strange innit''
Ethos - '' yeah man, we will have to give this some more thought and see how this affects the present thinking''
box - ''cool dude' I am glad you science types are not all nerdy science types''
Would of been far less pain staking if people behaved a bit normal around here .
We all talk as if we are trying to be programmed robots, we need all chill I thinks.

The old adage: "The more one argues with another, the more that other one is convinced of their own ways."
For this reason, it becomes necessary at times to simply ignore those that simply want an argument. I would truly prefer to reason with each and every member here at TNS, but on occasion, certain individuals demonstrate the complete disregard for empirical evidence and resist considering any view but their own.
For those select few, because they disregard experimental evidence in deference to their flawed personal and biased opinions, I intend to disregard them and their posts as well.

Silence is golden but like a nosey neighbor, becomes tiresome after wearing out it's welcome.

Certain individuals can not interpret their own experiment evidence, they over think the results and do not consider all the details then think it means something else to what it actual means.
Observer effect is mostly science experiments, the results happen because they are made rather than being of the natural process.
FYI most of science is somebodies thoughts and not 100% fact, I am not subjective to their thoughts I have my own thoughts and they are based on not thinking but saying the observation.

Nope...............I meant nosey, can also be spelt "nosy" as in "prying" or inserting ones unwanted presence into other people's business. But now that you mention it, this behavior has become quite noisy as well.......................

Great intellect is a marvelous thing, something to be envious of for sure. However, there is one pitfall for those who are truly brilliant. And that pitfall is realized when they become so smart that, they no longer are able to learn.

Life strives until it dies.................................

Men strive so long as they live, only when we must, do we reverence give for that which stalks us. With every beginning there remains an ending, then we face that final question: "What merit...... that which lay between?"

Life offers us the opportunity to learn many great lessons. One of the first would be perfecting the art of saying; "Hello". And when facing it's ultimate conclusion, dealing with the pain of saying; "Goodbye".

Concerning the established principle of quantum chaos.
When absolute complexity overwhelms the imagination, and the laziness of the researcher suppresses their interest in connecting all the dots, they throw up their hands and claim "Chaos".
The question then becomes: Is it chaos within our physical reality, or is it only chaos within the mind of the researcher?
Somewhere in the woods, a butterfly is flapping it's wings.

After pondering the question of honesty, I am forced to make a painfully honest statement about my life: Even though I detest the liar, I have lied and will probably do it again before I die.
"I, the imperfect man."
-
Man or woman we are all painfully imperfect but perfectly unique and valuable human beings, despite our imperfections. Sometimes we cannot see it but imperfections can sometimes be a blessing for helping us to see things in a better light and helping us to do better and strive to be better human beings. We all usually learn from our mistakes and hopefully we can correct some of them that really impact our lives as well as others around us. I have had so much trouble getting the site to log me in and now that I am fully logged in I am very happy to still see your thread open. I hope to see and read many more of your posts. I love reading them. Its been a long time and I am glad to see you in here!
