I believe that stars, planets etc do have an effect on us. Think about this - the moon has a massive effect on oceans, & the human body is mainly comprised of water. How can anyone accept that the moon affects oceans but not believe that it has any effect on the water in our bodies? Then there's the "spooky things at a distance" effect. Who's to say that certain particles in our bodies aren't influenced by that?
As for events being pre-ordained... that's a different matter. My personal belief is that our lives can be thought of as the inside of a sphere. We are born at a certain point on the inner surface & will die at another. There are certain points within the volume of the sphere that will occur no matter what - but how we travel from 1 of those points to another is down to our individual will. However, the nearer we are to 1 of those points, the less choice we have.

I'm an Aries with Virgo rising, and you'll find those people tend not to take astrology too seriously, either, as a rule.

My theory of astrology:
I notice that my diet changes according to seasons. For example, I'm more of a vegetarian in the summer and a carnivore in winter. I also know that an embryo's development relies heavily on the health of its mother.
Putting the two observations together, I decided that the if the mother's diet changes with seasons, then perhaps the baby's development also changes with the time of year it is in the womb.
Therefore, the time of year in which you were born may be connected to your personal traits by virtue of the type of nourishment you received as an embryo.
The previous comment suggested the moon's gravity has an effect on people as well, though I don't yet see a connection to the womb.
What do you think?

Isn't the womb full of fluid?

I've noticed that when the sun goes down I tend to get sleepy - is this a sign that the 'stars' are influencing my behaviour in some subtle way ? ;)

Naturally, circadian rhythms are very important, so paying attention to rising and setting of the sun can be a benefit, leading to all sorts of autonomous chemical shutdown effects in the brain to accompany this.

Stars are also important in our navigation, so I can imagine the weight people have always given to correct 'observance' in this respect. And one can lead to the other, overextension of beliefs...
