Title: Does alternate hot and cold water exposure have beneficial effects after exercise?
Post by: thedoc on 17/12/2016 22:23:02
Tom Kearney asked the Naked Scientists:

Just listened to Kat talking about ice baths after exercise. How about alternating hot and cold water when showering? I have heard that it promotes blood circulation.

Thanks,

Tom Kearney.
What do you think?

I can't think of an obvious reason why that would be beneficial to be honest. I think a gentle warm-down and then adequate time for the muscle to recuperate, repair and restore its energy stores is probably all that is required.
