Antidepressant medication would be worth a try rather than opting for “the big sleep”.

If you really want to be a guinea-pig, (or are broke), there may be a drug-trial for new antidepressant medication you could sign up for , e.g ...  http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Antidepressant-drugs/Pages/clinical-trial.aspx?CT=0&Rec=1&Countries=All+Countries (http://www.nhs.uk/Conditions/Antidepressant-drugs/Pages/clinical-trial.aspx?CT=0&Rec=1&Countries=All+Countries)

If you were to find someone doing research on depression you'd only be of use to them alive : so they could scan your living brain with an fMRI (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Functional_magnetic_resonance_imaging) machine  which is non-invasive / painless (vivisection not required) ... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9831460

GID research also uses fMRI ... https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=fMRI++"gender-identity+disorder" (https://www.google.com/search?q=fMRI++"gender-identity+disorder")

So, how would I go about finding a research(er/group)? If I had money, connections, loved ones, will, or some kind of response to the various treatments I have had over the course of my life, there wouldn't be a need or desire to go this far ...

In the UK gender reassignment is performed by the public health system free of charge to the patient …

I don't know if this is possible where you are, or if it's something you'd considered.

Whether for GID or (consequent?) depression you should seek professional help : firstly from your primary healthcare provider (General Practitioner). If your GP is not sympathetic maybe people in a lgbt (http://lgbt.co.uk/) group can advise you on how to proceed.

I can't imagine what it's like to be born in the wrong body, but some people in LGBT groups do ... http://ilga.org/ilga/en/organisations/TRANS%20SECRETARIAT

... I don't need a limb pushed onto me that I don't want.

I believe it's possible to have hormone treatment for GID without surgery : i.e. the "limb" is optional ...

Quote from: nhs.uk/Gender-dysphoria
The aim of hormone therapy is to make you more comfortable with yourself, both in your physical appearance and how you feel psychologically (mentally). These hormones start the process of changing your body into one that is more female or more male, depending on your gender identity.
Hormone therapy may be all the treatment you need to enable you to live with your gender dysphoria. The hormones may improve how you feel and mean that you do not need to start living in your preferred gender or have surgery.

... I would rather my body be of use than for me to just discard it ... all I want to know is how to donate my body for medical use; I have no more need or want for it. That. Is. All.

It’s very unlikely that the organs of anybody will be used for organ-donation, even less so for a 'discarded' body ...

The circumstances required to save organs are so rare that of the 2.5 million deaths in America each year, only 10,000 to 12,000 people -- less than half a percent -- are able to become donors

If you are feeling altruistic you may be able to donate blood and/or sign-up to be a bone-marrow donor, ( blood & bone-marrow are live donations ).

The organisations below , (or similar), may be of help ...

Samaritans' work

The core of Samaritans' work is a telephone helpline, operating 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Samaritans was the first 24 hour telephone helpline to be set up in the UK. In addition, the organisation offers a drop-in service for face-to-face discussion ... and undertakes research into suicide and emotional health issues.

Since 1994, Samaritans has also offered confidential email support. Initially operating from one branch, the service is now provided by 198 branches and co-ordinated from the organisation's head office. In 2011 Samaritans received over 206,000 emails, including many from outside the UK, and aims to answer each one within 24 hours.
