Title: Hot Pockets of Air while riding in the car?

Yesterday I was coming home from soccer at 8:30 and it was about what almost 100 degrees outside and I was sitting in the front seat with the windows down and every 10-20 seconds I would feel this pocket of hot air hit me on the face. It almost made me sick.

So I guess I just wanna know what causes those little pockets of air that are really hot.
