COVID-19 / COVID: what does the future will look like?
« on: 27/12/2021 18:16:55 »
So our attempts at making a vaccine whilst valiant hasnt helped as much a we have hoped as they can’t stop you getting infected .So the way I see it there are only two possible futures for the world and COVID as the world won’t keep locking down forever as such an action is not economically viable into the long term

1.  It evolves hopefully into a more infectious but less deadly variant that takes over from delta and omicron and becomes something no worse than the flu.
 or
2. we just learn to live with it and accept it’s going to cause many fatalities and hope some new drug will come along which will effectively treat its symptoms.

I beginning to think 2 is probably the way most countries will deal with it in the future.

Any thoughts

Chemistry / Why does my hydrochloric acid produce negative pressure in its container?
« on: 28/05/2021 00:29:40 »
I restore cars and occasionally i will place a rusted item in a  plastic barrel that is half full of hydrochloric acid in order to quickly remove the rust. .

I've noticed if I keep the airtight lid sealed for a few days the sides of the barrel will implode. so the question is why does  hydrochloric acid cause a pressure drop inside a half filled sealed container.

Physiology & Medicine / Why do we get that dizzy feeling?
« on: 28/02/2021 17:22:54 »
Hi all .

The question sounds easy but there are three parts to this question and it gets a bit more complicated as you work your way through the questions . I know the answer to question one, as many will, but it may be helpful for others if someone explains and then if you know, is a link with question two and  three  and if so ,why.

1. Why do we get dizzy normally .

2. Why do we get dizzy when we are are up high and look down over the edge.

3 why do we sometimes get dizzy when we watch someone like Fred DIbnah walk across a plank of wood hundreds of feet up on television without physically  being there. Well I do.

Why is Chris ( Head honcho) still only a forum king. After nearly 20 years surely he should have at least god status by now.

Physics, Astronomy & Cosmology / Why don’t we use Mars as a life experiment.
« on: 21/02/2021 20:22:12 »
Why don’t we try to introduce very basic forms of life to Mars. Why is  it so important to keep it sterile.

Cells, Microbes & Viruses / Herd immunity to Covid19, and possibly Covid-20, Covid-21, and Covid-22?
« on: 09/10/2020 00:20:36 »
Currently we  are on wave two.  At some stage everything will be shut  down and we will  reduce the R number enough to reopen everything and then along will come wave 3 and so on and so on.

So basically this is with us for a long time if we continue to deal with it in the way we currently are. .  So i was thinking like others, is the best way forward for the country to open up with no restrictions apart from those who need to shield due to age or a condition that makes them vulnerable and let everyone else catch it  so most of the population become immune preventing its transmission.

However I then had another thought (i have many, some say I have too many)  Does having antibodies against a virus prevent you actually catching that  virus . Is it like I was told after my flu jab that I can still catch the flu but it wont be a bad case.  If I can still catch a  virus even though i have antibodies against it and therefore will still be able to pass it on, a future vaccine or  herd immunity of the general population wont help us  eradicate it and could actually make things worse as there may be more people walking around with the virus but no symptoms .

So am I right in my thinking or wrong ,where Neilep when you need him.

Plant Sciences, Zoology & Evolution / spaying my cat
« on: 03/09/2008 21:19:12 »
Should i get my cat done, she's got a wicked personality and i dont want it to change

Amongst all the things she does she plays fetch like a dog with her farovorite toy with feathers on bringing back to me everytime and then waits for me to say go before she runs after it again.

She instigates games of hide and seek. she will come up tap me on the arm or face and run away to hide ,when i find her she will give me time to hide and then hunts me down tapping me with her paw before she takes her turn.

She gives me so many smiles i dont want to give her the operation if its gonna change her

General Science / arc eye
« on: 22/08/2008 00:37:23 »
I was doing some welding today and to avoid arc eye i wore goggles which have clear glass lenses plus very dark and almost impossible to see through flip down lenses which cuts down the amount of UV light from the welding reaching your eye and causing damage.

But as Normal glass stops UV from passing through why cant i just wear clear glass lenses to protect my eyes rather than the dark lenses

That CAN'T be true! / Red heads with Tans
« on: 28/06/2008 15:50:14 »
Just like faster than light travel its one of those things you know is impossible ,red heads cant get sun tans they just go red and burn. However  now some boffins at the University of Arizona have come out with a drug which causes your body to release copious amounts of melanin allowing everyone to get the perfect all over body tan without the need of the sun and its dangerous effects . I ask what next.

You may remember me from such thought provoking threads such as

"P versus NP" "The Hodge conjecture" "The Riemann hypothesis" "Yang-Mills existence and mass gap" "Navier-Stokes existence and smoothness" & "The Birch and Swinnerton-Dyer conjecture".

Unfortuantly the only person (NEIL) with any hope of answering these problems has his own problems to solve such as " why if i fall on my head does it Hurt" Why dont my eyeballs fall out when i open my eyes " and HIS yet to be solved favorite " why at night when I turn the light off does it get dark ?"....

I therefore have no choice but to leave the answering of this question to you the mere mortals of this forum.

Why if i put silver foil in my mouth my teeth feel like they are getting electric shocks and i have to remove it, yet my kitten can happily bit on an run around with a ball of tin foil all day without feeling any unpleasant feelings in his mouth or teeth.

I can change the date automtically in excel by typing in =today() in cell B2

However i would be prefer to change the date in B2 by creating a text box/ button so it updates only when i click on the button.

The Environment / So the UN says there has been no global warming. Is this true?
« on: 12/04/2008 15:21:54 »
So the UNs World Meteorological Organization says that over the last ten years there has been no warming of the world's climate and that next year it will actually cool.

Shouldn't that fact put an end to the loony multi billion pound global warming industry and place thousands of people who's jobs are based on trying to prove we are destroying the world on the unemployment register and looking for a new cause.

Just Chat! / OBTAINING MONEY THROUGH DECEPTION
« on: 30/03/2008 18:12:55 »
Could be a dangerous subject this.

But as it would be hard for anyone to prove the writtings in the bible are based on facts why cant the catholic church or any other religion be charged with obtaining money or services through deception.
