what are einsteins discredited theories!!!
« on: 28/08/2007 23:11:10 »
Ive heard the story many times, einstein tries to publish his newest theory since general relativity.

Modern physicists disagree with it, say hes out of touch, its going in the other direction of the future, quantum mechanics.

Is anyone other than me a little curious as to what his new theory was? even if other physicists think it is wrong, Id like to decide for myself.  See if maybe it sparks some thougt, figure out what he was thinking of. Personally if einstein thinks its right, isnt that the most important opinion?

Also, supposedly its a pretty broad theory, but ive never heard what it was, what it predicted. If anybody knows anything about it, id really love to know.

The work he did after general relativity focused on unifying all the forces in the universe with a single theory.  He never managed to get a functional theory and was still working on the equations on his death bed.  I haven't read his work on it, but I've heard the reason it failed was that he wasn't able to account for the recently discovered quantum-scale forces (the weak and strong forces).

Scientists are still trying to get a theory like this to work, since it would be amazing if all the universe could be explained by one underlying theory of everything.  This line of research is called "Grand Unified Theory."  The wikipedia page for it is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grand_unification_theory

Since he's been dead since 1955 I think he can be forgiven for being out of touch.
