Title: smoking
Post by: Ria on 05/03/2006 18:46:52
Hi I have given up smoking now for 2 months and am trying to find out if the rash I have developed on my face and neck is related, I also at the same time took up excercise and completely changed my diet to a very healthy one. I have only had the rash for the last couple of days.
Thanks

It sounds like your body and your mind is being put under a lot of stress by so much change. If you don’t mind the discomfort of this then you will find that it will all settle down after few more weeks. I should see my doc just to but my mind at rest if I was you but I would say it all down to stress. Drink lots of water and keep off caffeine if possible as the nicotine increases our tolerances of it. A lot of the side affects of stopping smoking is due to this. That way it best to cut out caffeine for two week before stopping smoking. Keep strong and remember the pain means you are doing it.

Hi Ria,

Good luck in getting this rash thing sorted.

Regarding it, does it itch ?..does it fade ? is it spreading ?....any changes to your lifestyle in the last couple of days ?...It may all well be related to stress as Hadrian says, but it if it's not giving you any discomfort and fades away when you apply pressure to it, then it may just be a heat rash or sweat rash...or perhaps an allergy to some new soap or detergent you may have just started using....

Perhaps pop into your local chemist and ask the pharmacist *a valuable free and easy resource that people do not take advantage of*

Let us know how you get on eh ?...and check back here for other reponses too.

Of course, you may get other responses like...have you tried joining the dots ? [:D]..or could it be the stigmata version of a map of Mars's craters ? [;)]

WELL DONE ON QUITTING SMOKING !!...and good luck..

Men are the same as women.... just inside out !!

Hi ria
I've given up three times so far [:)] I have had a rash but it was due to the nicotine patch i was wearing . However on all three occasions the skin on my upper arms and in places on my neck did become tender to touch ,no redness just a general sore feeling.

Hopefully one day i will manage to give up.

GOOD LUCK I HOPE YOUR WILL POWER IS STRONGER THAN MINE.[:)]

Hi Ria - I quit about 16 months ago.  I was in the hospital for 8 days and decided if I could last 8 days, then I could quit for good.  I did not get a rash, however I did give several nurses numerous tongue lashings.  That alleviated my stress somewhat.  The down side of quitting was that I gained more than 70 pounds in a year.  Good job on changing your diet and exercise - keep that up.  I'm working on that now.  Also try yelling at several people.  If your rash goes away then you know its stress and you need to yell more.  Keep up the good work.

Carolyn

I think your probably right my body is in shock with all the changes I've made. Did not know that about Caffeine I love the stuff and have drunk my coffee even stronger since giving up the ciggies but interestingly I have cut it out a little and have been drinking more water  over the last week, the rash is not getting any worse.

I admire your courage and determination to keep it up. I smoked 40 a day navy cut and I am free of it for 20 years now I did what you are doing. Yes it is hard but all change can result growth id you choose to see it that way. Most people give up as soon as it gets hard. Those who succeed don’t. In the end you can't smoke if you don’t put the fag in your mouth. The suffering will pass and each time you resist it you prove that you have the power to do what you want to do and this can empower you do any thing you decide to way beyond smoking. Hadrian
