Fred Richardson asked the Naked Scientists:
Hi guys, just wondering if, as a corollary to CRISPR/Cas9, you could include a segment on 'Gene Drives'? It sent a chill up my spine to think of their 'weaponised' potential. On a lighter note I sure hope CRISPR and maybe Gene Drives are included in the next TV season of Orphan Black. Enjoyed the Master Chef segment especially the Gin distiller info, As a vegetarian I've also heard that some settling agents are animal based. I ferment vegetables Chris and with all the work and money being poured into the microbiome globally was wondering if a segment on fermented food chemistry would work? The chemistry around the by products of metabolisation; proteins, amino acids, carbs, sugars, acid etc would be very interesting, for me at least. And like beer its been around for 5 thousand years? as a pathogen free nutritional supplement [and I've heard it said that fermented veggies were our first societal antibiotics.
Thanks for your show everyone, and feel free to pop in for a cuppa if you're ever in The Alice
What do you think?
