Title: spaying my cat
Post by: ukmicky on 03/09/2008 21:19:12
Should i get my cat done, she's got a wicked personality and i dont want it to change

Amongst all the things she does she plays fetch like a dog with her farovorite toy with feathers on bringing back to me everytime and then waits for me to say go before she runs after it again.

She instigates games of hide and seek. she will come up tap me on the arm or face and run away to hide ,when i find her she will give me time to hide and then hunts me down tapping me with her paw before she takes her turn.

She gives me so many smiles i dont want to give her the operation if its gonna change her

COOL CAT..I do know what you mean.. getting them fixed sometimes seems to change their playful attitudes into docile and lazy things!

she is the best thing i have ever bought and i so scared the op will change her .  She even loves to eat lettuce and once we found her dragging a big ball of it out of the kitchen.

Ewe have to weigh up the differences between her attracting every tom for miles and miles and the possibility of having lots of kittens, which you'll end up having to find homes or risk the spaying and hope it don;t change her.

If this helps...I've always had cats...spaying has always been done and we have found (in OUR experience) that it did NOT change the cats personality .

Our two cats are ' sorted ' though, we never knew them for the first five years of their lives because we jut adopted them....but Pixie (the girly) had us all in hysterics tonight....she totally went mental all over the lounge playing with a toy mouse !

Every rescue center spays and neuters ...they don't want more unwanted animals.

I have found it can be not great if you do it after they are several years old.. I always had mine spayed when they were about 6 months.. I think the vets want them to be a certain age.. Thats when we did it.. around their first heat!  My chaser never was a boring cat.. she stayed happy and playful and just as neurotic as she always was... She was great!

I think for the most part that is the norm... I have seen a few cases when the cat was never the same.. but there has only been a few to my knowledge that I have seen. My Moms cat got down right nasty after.. but whos to say she did not have a mental problem already but as a kitten did not show it.. She got very violent and would be laying on your lap being petted then the next minute she was crazy trying to slap your face hissing and ripping the soup out of you... She was a demon cat after her spay.. I honestly think she had a disorder and it just hadn't raised its ugly head until then.. Although she was beautiful and loved me MOM... It was crazy!

I would have liked to have seen that with your pixie girly! I bet she was having a blast.. does the mouse have cat nip in it like most toy mice?
