whoops...didnt see that is said "Bass" specifically...but I DO know what it is!
hehehe
-
Yes, you cheated and called me with a list of minerals a mile ling, asked me "is it this," "is it this."
You finally gave up and begged me to tell you so I did. If you post the answer - your banned.
I HAVE THE POWER!!!!
-
Is this pyrite?
-
I merely stated ONE mineral! And it wasnt that one. I wont even name the mineral that the picture ISNT just to keep you happy. [:P]

At least you know your place - oh, and FOG - wasn't is the correct way to spell this.

The picture WASNT the mineral in question when I posted this reply, and to this very second it still ISNT. I think isn't is better suited [;D]

What on Earth are you two talking about?
-
A D- in calculus is coming up.
Impudent Brat
C4
We were speaking first about a telephone conversation we had about 1:30 PM our time. (We have the misfortune of living in the same city so he comes over all the time for food. He is just a poor student - monetarily and otherwise.) We have since deteriorated into utter madness. Is that why you dropped by?
-
Okay, I see how the story goes now. He comes to your house everyday? [:D]
He must be mad! And what's this calculus business?
-
is it asbestos?
-
No, sorry, it isn't Karen.
-
He must be mad! And what's this calculus business?
Not mad...apparently Im just a mental masochist. Plus, JimBob is actually a very lovable guy (and a good cook)...though he would never let you know that here.
Contrary to the ravings of a certified loon, I am actually a pretty damned good student. BUT...I have developed a love/hate relationship with my calculus book. And btw, oh acerbic one...a D is not imminent. I could very well end up with a B after the curve, depending on how I handle these last two exams (and how much time I waste defending my honor on the forum!) [:)]
Back to calculus *ugh*

So it's not pyrite then?
-
So it's not pyrite then?
No, 'tis not.
-
Is it Galena?
-
No, that is a silvery crystal and square, i.e., cubic crystal system.
-
What crystal system is it?
-
.... i.e., cubic crystal system.
Do you read and comprehend at the same time? Or is this just your explosive wit, C4?
-
Did you mean: that (galena) is a silvery crystal and square, i.e., cubic crystal system?
Or: that (the thing in the first post) is a silvery crystal and square, i.e., cubic crystal system.
What I wanted to know was: What is the crystal system for that (the thing in the first post)?
-
Cubic system for galina. The given crystal is not (I just love being sarcastic)
-
What is it then?
-----
And I thought you said Bass is home, where is he?!?!
-
He gets a guess or two - besides I asked the question. I really do not want to give it away to Bass.
He is probably resting with his wife. He hasn't been home for two weeks!!
-
No hold on! The man of the moment is here!
-
Hey Y'all--
Long(ish) time lurker.... 1st time poster :)
Okay now, noting that my rock and mineral identification skills are pretty rudimentary (I am a would-be lapidary and collector of rocks 'n' stuff, not a geologist) - I have been flipping through field guides lately though. I will still hazard a guess based on the photo and minimal detail given.
Also... fwiw, is there any way to get a sense of scale on that photo?
In any case, is the displayed mineral _manganite_?
diogenesNY
-
Nope, sorry.
-
Is it smoky quartz?
-
Is it smoky quartz?
Nope.
-
Arsenopyrite?
What is the location?
-
Beryl?
-
Okay, Yall:
One more try.....
Is this possibly the not-so-frequently-seen crystaline form of Gold?
diogenesNY

diogenesNY
VERY possible.
Location: Colorado, California, Romania, Quebec, and Australia.
-
Gold eh?
-
White gold?
-
Is it Nagyágite?!
-
Is it Nagyágite?!
No - you need to be simple!
Oh, you already are, aren't you? [B)]
-
Is it wire gold?
-
CALAVERITE!
-
The rest of you can stop - C4 actually GUESSED it !!
-
Thank you, thank you for your kind words. [:)]
-
It is my pleasure, kind sir.
-
Bang! Zoom!
I wouldn't'a thunk it, but C4 picked it right out. Following on C4's info and a bit of scratching, we come up with this:

diogenesNY
-
So that's where you got it from!
-
WHAT? You think I am rich enough to own a specimen like that? OR luck enough to find it?
I can't even find the front door of my house!
[:o)]
-
stumbles into thread, dazed look, falls flat on face
WAIT- I know this one! CALAVERITE
oh- somebody else already got it [:-'(]
actually, my first guess would have been CUBANITE
then I would have guessed one of the tellurides...
-
I think its stated ONE mineral! And i don't know anyother thiing to say
