Title: What are your favourite Plant Pictures?

A living wall - perhaps one day we'll all have indoor oxygen generating natural walls like that

Post by: Alandriel on 19/11/2007 19:54:38: It's the remnant of hobbit homes made for the Lord of the Ring movies in near Matamata, New Zealand. After filming was over they kept them as they've turned into a tourist attraction. Check out Bag end - Tolkiengatway (http://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Bag_End) if you want to know more.

Desert rose

For the life of me I can't find the latin name. [:(]

Quite an interesting plant in that it can dry up completely, gets uprooted during the many sand storms and can travel (rolling along with the wind) for hundreds if not thousands of miles to take up roots once more again when conditions are right.
Some people have also speculated that this might have been the original 'crown of thorns'

Yes they are pretty plants, but they are domestic garden flowers, not wildflowers. Those mountains are the tetons in Wyoming. We are working with the native flowers of that area, so I have some familiarity.

The surface of a stinging nettle leaf. The large stinging hairs are hollow tubes with walls of silica making them into tiny glass needles. The bulb at the base of each hair contains the stinging liquid, which includes formic acid, histamine, acetylcholine and 5-hydroxytryptamine (serotonin). The tips of the glassy hairs are very easily broken when brushed, leaving a sharp point, which can pierce the skin to deliver the sting.

Post by: Nizzle on 17/12/2009 09:29:11: I lure fruit flies by placing a banana peel or half an apple or orange in the terrarium. Once i see there are some present, i remove the fruit, close the terrarium and have the plants compete for the flies.

Compared to the wild, my plants are underfed, but that's OK because they'll still survive. They won't grow as fast though, which is good for a terrarium anyways cause this way I don't have to prune the plants that much.
